A University of Wisconsin System regent has quit because he's upset over how the governor has treated illegal immigrants.
Jesus Salas sent his resignation letter Friday morning as Gov. Jim Doyle signed the new two-year state budget. Salas accused Doyle in his letter of not fighting hard enough for a budget provision that would have let illegal immigrants who graduate from Wisconsin high schools pay in-state tuition. Lawmakers stripped the measure from the document.
Salas went on to say he's angry with Doyle for signing laws that require proof of citizenship to get a driver's license and prohibit illegal immigrants from getting state-subsidized home loans.
"In spite of the fact that Latinos share the same fundamental values that brought generation of European immigrants in the same manner to Wisconsin, it is only we who are 'illegal,''' he wrote. "Everyday there are those, individuals as well as representatives of communities as a whole, including state entities who are contriving ways to further deprive us of our US Constitutional rights to life and liberty.''

this tuition clause was a tiny piece of a massive back door tax hike on Wisconsinites, raising state fees, real estate taxes, much more, said to be 8 billion dollar over the next 10 years, it was being sold to the public as a ‘cigarette tax’. The state senate and governor are democrats, only the Assembly with a slim Republican majority blocked it, I can’t thank the Assembly enough. The governor did get his cigarette tax.
You know, they just kinda moseyed on over across the Atlantic...like this.
Cheers!
The left in WI got 95% of their wish list and this guy is complaining. Good grief.
Our family needs to get the heck out of this state.
I’d invite you over here, but it ain’t that much better...
;-)

Minnesota wouldn’t be my first choice. Same taxes and even more snow.
;-(
“You would assume that a regent of a University would be somewhat intelligent and fairly well educated.”
No, I wouldn’t.

If that was true we wouldn't have the situation we have....
I never really liked the fact someone could have HIS name. It’s silly enough that people call themselves muhammed...
The spanish culture that dominated latin america for sometime...is to the left, highly filled with bravado, and extremely authoritarian. America is a right-leaning country, masculine but not chest thumping, and highly anti-authority (unless the situation demands it).
Barring latin america dislike of abortions...I see very little in common politically.
Our rugged individualism is almost absent in latin america.
These arrogant south_of_the_border shits are hear two years and they start telling me what their right are! Amazing.
Try going to Mexico or any Latin country and start acting like you are equal to natives who have been there for generations

That area has turned into the most incredible liberal “chit-hole” in the Midwest. I thought that Tommy Thompson might have shown that state the key to future prosperity, but the urge to use government as a tool by which to steal money from others is simply too tempting...even for the once-good people of that area.
Great!
Dear “senor” Salas....don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you!
