Back then we didn’t have rear facing child car seats in the rear seat either. Also, there was no feminist movement telling women that they didn’t need husbands or even men for that matter....they could have it all.
True. Another unintended consequence of the feminist movement.
We did not have so many divorces back then, and we did not have a society that says it's okay for a father to sire a child and then ease on down the road, so there were relatively few single mothers driving around.
Of course, one big reason is putting kids in the back seat because of the air bags in the front seat.
It is a tremendous difference, isn't it? It used to be considered terrible child abuse to have a child outside marriage, cheating the child of two parents.
Good points, but you also have to keep in mind that cars were a lot bigger then as well. When I was a kid I used to ride around in the back of a Ford LTD II Wagon, almost 100 yards from the driver's seat. It's a miracle I was never forgotten in the car, much less lost in it!
There was a doctor not too long ago who did the same thing. His wife usually took the baby to day care but for some reason he had the duty that day. The infant fell asleep and he forgot it was in his car.
I find the headline to this story to be judgmental and offensive. I can promise you in the example above the media did portray it as “General Hospital Doctor Forgets Child.”
I hate the liberal media.
Dude this is FR. Being judgemental is a prerequisite.
I believe it’s written into the bylaws.
Did this type of thing happen back in the 50s, 60s 70s like it does now?
Interesting point. I think that forty or fifty years ago
(a) no cars had air-conditioning so we left the windows open most of the time, even when the car was parked. We were less worried about car theft then.
(b) Very few mothers of small children worked and drove their children around to drop off somewhere.
C People were not mandated by law to strap kids into a car seat in the back of the car where they could be more easily forgotten.
I'll tell you what. It's hard to sneak stuff by a journalist.
>>It’s unknown if the mother will face any charges in the child’s death. Tranter said situations like this are handled “on a case-by-case basis.”<<
Back in June, a local man was arrested and charged after leaving his DOG in the car.
These cases are treated “case-by-case”.
Uneven priorities, if you ask me.
Sometimes it isn’t even that. I took a quick poll after a friend did this and found out that just about everyone forgets their child in the car. But it rarely ends up like this.
I’ve done some really stupid stuff parenting wise but never that.
Good Lord. That poor, poor kid. I don’t know how anyone could forget their kid, especially after taking that time to buckle them in those $#^&ing car seats.
Like one poster said, parents didn’t forget about us when we were jumping around in the back seats and making noise rather than being strapped in and sedated by DVD movies.
Yeah I know wait until a post about some one who is having financial trouble. The guy would be cast as a bum and should only have bread and water to eat.
Just about everyone I know has looked in the back seat while driving and said “Whoops”. You head to work and suddenly realize the kids are in the car, turn around and head to the day care.
I think this is also a minivan/SUV problem. My Jetta made it impossible to get out of the car and not see what was in the back seat.
Where this woman was employed had no bearing on the fact that she was directly responsible for the death of the child.
