During a long career in public service and private practice, Michael B. Mukasey has forged an independent path as a lawyer and federal judge. He has presided over 1,600 cases in almost 19 years on the bench. He has extensive experience on national security cases -- presiding over such critically important cases as U.S. vs. Rahman and Padilla vs. Bush. In the Omar Abdel Rahman case, 10 defendants were given prison sentences ranging from 25 years to life.
Judge Mukasey is not Alberto R. Gonzales. In our confirmation hearings (and subsequently, in writing), Judge Mukasey's answers to hundreds of questions were crisp and to the point, and reflected an independent mind. That's why I intend to vote to confirm him to be our next attorney general. I truly believe he will be a strong advocate for the American people.

This is something of a surprise. Feinstein is a solid lib, though she occasionally breaks with her party on executive & judicial appointments.
I’m sure she’ll soon enough do something that’ll have you despising her more. COunt on it.
Pretend to support conservative values because the next election is near Democrat.
No surprise ... look at it this way, if they don’t vote for him, BUSH will take over the position f Attorney General. That scares them into voting FOR an AG. Bush is being clever here.
Mukasey is an old friend of Schumer’s ... Schumer is on record himself as acknowledging sometimes torture is appropriate ... Schumer HAD to vote for Muskasey, despite the split from the party orthodoxy .. Schumer needed a beard ... Feinstein fit the bill.
After the White House nominated Mukasey, one of the Jewish pubs I get put out an article about their great pride in Mukasey who, I think, might be the first Jewish AG when confirmed. So both Schumer and Feinstein had a secondary interest in his confirmation.
Not to mention, Mukasey appears to have been one helluva good judge. That alone would not have swayed their votes and seems to have had no impact with Leahy, Biden, Durbin, Fat Teddy. Speaking of whom, let us have one last good laugh at Fat Teddy claiming he won’t vote for Mukasey becaue he didn’t answer properly about water torture! No irony there!
Maybe she is trying to make sure this doesn't come back to bite her.

Why is she supporting him? She’s an ultra liberal leftist representing the most liberal leftist city. Is Muskasey an ultra liberal who’s wearing sheep’s cloting?
Tit for tat - nothing more. She has the principles of a sand flea.
“This is something of a surprise. Feinstein is a solid lib, though she occasionally breaks with her party on executive & judicial appointments.”
Feinstein is a crook and everyone knows it. Her hubby also has the military contracts. She isn’t stupid.
Feinstein has broken with her party before. She voted to confirm Jeffrey Sutton and Edward Southwick to the Federal courts.
Bingo! The correct answer. Shows that Bush and the Pubbies never learn.
I hear Chuckie Schumer is going to back him too.
Confirm Mukasey
Senators Leahy, Kennedy, etal are pandering to voters following secular orthodoxy equating discomfort and frustration with torture. Senators provide intellectual comfort to those demanding moral ambiguity for conflict outcome between civilized societies and Wahhabi jihadists. For liberal presbytery 9/11 events require moral ambiguity and redefinition to irrelevancy to sustain public serenity vital for acquiring and retaining power through political largesse. Defending serenity compels outrage over Mukasey’s testimony, notwithstanding codified terrorist citizenship attributes within Fifth, Eight and Fourteenth Constitutional amendments.
My Representative quotes statements from 20 former Army interrogators that prisoner/detainee abuse and torture should be avoided at all costs, while avoiding uncomfortable parallels that 2,000 to 200,000 American deaths cannot provoke urgencies the country must be protected at all costs. Against this asymmetrical homily, FBI Director Mueller describes a robust nuclear material and technology market. Fifty-year-old technologies reside worldwide for weapons such as Davy Crockett missiles that fired a 51-pound, 20-ton yield warhead, and Astor torpedoes that carried a Hiroshima size warhead. Yet our victory must remain wholly within interrogation processes seeking tranquil, self-created moral high ground defining national greatness. The Wahhabi jihadists define victory as our submission after elaborate, extensive slaughters. Given jihadists avoid our scenarios for legitimate conflict; they win by their definition. We perish, but win by ours.
Terrorists possessing unambiguous, malevolent intent are unresponsive to direct questioning and psychological gambits. Interrogators need the range of techniques applied to our own military in survival school. Unfortunately, our countrys survival has been tabled for Senate discussion.
Schumer and Feinstein both LOVE this guy....he was Schumer’s CHOICE......THAT makes me VERY nervous.
No suprise at all.
The one thing that can make DiFi and Chucky ignore their feigned concerns about ‘waterboarding’, is an assurance about not limiting abortion.
Bet on it!
DiFi has moved 1/2 mm to the right since she had that cozy flight on Air Force One recently with Bush going to Kalifornia to see the wild fires. After the flight, she basically said, “gee, Bush isnt quite as big Dumbass as I thought. In fact, he knows a lot of sh!t!”
The abortion issue is up to the Supreme Court, not the Attorney General. And in any event, little will happen with regard to abortion until after three of the liberal justices retire. Which is why this Presidential election is more important than most.
IMHO, Bush is a lame-duck President domestically, and the aging Mukasey is merely going to be a transition person between this administration and the next.
