Yon says “I used to see 2-4 firefights a day.....

Man, that is the truth! Yon was in more firefights, armed only with a camera, than almost any troopers in Iraq. I hope he has better luck finishing this war and getting home safely than Ernie Pyle had in WW2.

"Well, is there more peace and and calm these days?"

Absolutely. Incredibly. Indubitably. Without a doubt. Definitely.

Jeez, Allegra, stop waffling and give a straight answer for a change!

I’m also concerned about the stories of corruption I hear lately. Is the Iraqi government having luck cracking down on this?

And if they are, can they come over here and tell us how they did it?

Good news for the surge. The American soldier, General Petreus, and President Bush all deserve to be commended. And credit goes to Michael Yon (especially) and to CBN for reporting the good news.

Hmmmm ..?? I’ve been wondering if Dr. Rice’s trip to the Middle East was in preparation for the strike on Iran.

I’ve probably seen too many movies .. LOL!!

Other Shoe? More than one!

The World Bank is in the processs of transfering nearly ONE BILLION dollars to the regime of Ahmadi-Nejad in Iran. ($900 million approved from before). So American money will be funding the anti-USA actions of our worst enemy and killer of our soldiers and civilians in Iraq.

This money would pass through Iranian banks, like Bank Melli, that have been blacklisted and should not be used to channel the funds. This roadblock seems to have given pause but not stopped the cash flow. In fact Iran appears to have already received some $50 million during the summer months.

The situation in Pakistan resembles what faced the late Shah of Iran when the Soviets inflamed an uneducated and politically ignorant VERY young populace to rise up and bring in a new religious “hero” Khomeini.

Some 50% of the Pakistani population polled stated they wanted Osama bin Laden as their leader. They already have their Khomeini in place.

Some four of the geographical divisions of Pakistan are Taleban controlled and oriented to sharia law and strict Islamic behavior and mind sets.

A very high percentage of the total population of the country leans toward sharia religious law and strict Islamic customs. Dry tinder for inflaming similar to Iran in the old days.

A religious take-over of Pakistan, like Khomeini in Iran will certainly lead to a huge blow to Western interests.

The question remains whether the Bush Administration/USA will follow Jimmy Carter’s inept and idiotic handling of the revolution against the Shah and put “idealistic democracy” over allowing Pakistan’s secular leader to block a terrorist take over. And maintain a pro-West status within Pakistan.

Already the State Department and President Bush are making noises about “democracy” and “elections” similar to those uttered by Carter back in 1978.

Meanwhile Musharaf has to face fanatical, suicidal, Islamic terrorist actions that neither follow democratic norms nor would allow a spark of democracy to survive in Pakistan after they take over. So let’s not help them by weakening Musharaf.

Again we are demanding political suicide for Pakistan in the name of an ephemeral democracy that exists in name only anywhere else in the world except the USA - even in much of Europe.

With Osama bn Laden in Pakistan’s Waziristan, it is a short step to much of Pakistan pledging allegiance to him and allowing him free movement in the four already “Taleban” regions.

And the official power to order sharia law and anti-Western activity inside and outside the country. The Islamic Jihadists will not follow Benazir Bhutto so she is not an alternative option. Nor powerful enough to fight against them.

And!

Pakistan’s nuclear capability falling into terrorist and Al Qaeda hands, even if only some dirty bomb useful, radioactive material and not the bombs Pakistan possesses - must weigh heavily in favor of supporting the only thing standing in the way of this horrifying event - Pervez Musharaf!

Let’s not cut our own throats by following in Carter’s footsteps which, some 30-years later, are the root of all our terrorist troubles today.

Pakistan and Turkey are the linch pins. If we loose the support of either country, life gets very hard. If we loose support of both, then we will have to draw back out of Afghanistan at least.

That's a nightmare scenario, I had no idea.

Already the State Department and President Bush are making noises about “democracy” and “elections” similar to those uttered by Carter back in 1978.

I'm getting the impression that Bush & Co. have decided to back Benazir Bhutto 'coz she's cool and has an Ivy League sheepskin.......no doubt she knows Condi personally, and Shrub, and some of the other kids........and they're trying a bone-headed move to replace Musharraf with Bhutto in a modernized version of the overthrow of Ngo Dinh Diem in 1963. And they may have put Pakistan in play politically instead.

Whatever we do, we absolutely cannot let that grisly Talib crew get anywhere near the Pak nuclear arsenal. And NO, these are not dirty bombs or Korean-style firecrackers. These are real nucelar weapons, courtesy of Dr. Khan (who needs to die with his staff sometime in the next 96 hours).

We need this now like a double migraine.

Instead of talking about this progress, the MSM is running with the "2007 Most Deadly Year in Iraq" headline.

Hi, Allegra! Good to see you around!

At least you aren't near all the screaming and yelling this time around......

Looks like Bush and Crew want to knock off Musharraf (my theory only, remember you heard it here first) to replace him with Ivy Leaguer Benazir Bhutto (the Chi O's all thought she was so kewl), and may wind up pushing the Paks over the cliff. In which case, Afghanistan goes onto the hot seat as their logistical tail suddenly vaporizes.

And the Russians and Chinese are trying so hard to make us feel welcome elsewhere in Central Asia. Aren't friends great?

My cousin's boy is finishing sonar school in San Diego, just got his ship -- a Norfolk tin can. Man, am I glad he won't be pulling PACFLT (and Fifth Fleet) duty. (The Fifth Fleet is, as the numeral suggests, basically a West Coast fleet -- it used to be the PACFLT's operational hat when Adm. Spruance had the conn, and became the Third Fleet with a complete change of task designators and call signs when Bull Halsey hoisted his flag -- confused the hell out of the Japanese, whom traffic analysis was telling we had 1800 ships or something in the Pacific, lol.)

Of course, out of Norfolk, he'll be eligible for rotation to the Med, and they sometimes reinforce via Suez. But his type (FF) doesn't accompany the big ships in "nonpermissive environments", since they aren't Aegis ships. When the big amphibs carrying MEU's that the single-screw FF's ordinarily escort deploy to your area, they drop off the FF's and join a CBG which is escorted by Aegis cruisers and DDG's.

Gonna be shakin' pretty soon around you, just not right in your yard. Stay inside and wear lots of sunblock, lol, and stay tuned to Commie News Network.

The press was blindingly quick in burying the news and significance of Lybia immediately handing over it's WMD program upon the capture of Saddam.

I'm not even sure they even acknowledged Lybia had a program to begin with - no mention of a WMD program, no big victory for taking it down, no reason to talk about it - no time to talk about it, all air time devoted to "quagmire", "lies", bla bla bla.
