WASHINGTON - Democratic White House candidates ridiculed Bill Clinton Tuesday for suggesting they were trying to sink Hillary Clinton's bid with slimy Swift boat-style attacks.
It was a rare rebuke of the popular ex-President by Sen. Clinton's rivals, who pounced on her debate stumble last week to challenge the aura of invincibility her campaign cultivates.
Barack Obama told The Associated Press he was "stunned" when Bubba on Monday compared criticism of his wife's waffling with the 2004 television ads that questioned the patriotism and Vietnam heroics of President Bush's Democratic opponent, John Kerry.
"How you would then draw an analogy to distorting somebody's military record is a reach," Obama said.
Chris Dodd deemed Bill Clinton's suggestion "outrageous."
"To have the former President come out and suggest this is a form of Swift-boating ... is way over the top in my view," he added.
Bill Clinton theorized the recent Democratic debate in Philadelphia, in which Hillary Clinton was criticized for zigzagging on Gov. Spitzer's controversial driver's license plan, veered dangerously close to intraparty character assassination.
Fallout from last week's debate has slashed into Hillary Clinton's poll lead, prompting the former First Lady to say yesterday she should have performed better.
"I wasn't at my best the other night," she told CNN. But she still refused to say if she supports Spitzer's plan to grant licenses to undocumented immigrants. "I'm not going to be second-guessing governors," she said.
A Marist poll out yesterday suggested Clinton's debate cost her. In two days of surveying before her Philly flubs, 52% supported Clinton. Afterward, that fell to 43%.
Her campaign's first defense after the debate was to point out the male candidates ganging up on the woman. Clinton later said she was under attack because she's winning.
Make that whining.

It’s going to be one very long year for Hillary. So much time to stand in front of so many questions.......Look for her to come down with a victim-disease soon. Something that will keep anyone in the media from asking direct questions of her. Newly found lumps somewhere or such.

It’s a matter of public record that the Clintons made it their business to personally and professionally destroy even the least significant and threatening of their enemies.

Bill Clinton mentions "Swift-boating" constantly and when he does it is with spitting venom and complete (feigned) disdain. And the LSM dutifully goes along with his description of it as a pack of lies.
They need to get it into the minds of the mindless that what the Swift-boaters said had no validity - that it was slimy and despicable. Then when the truth about Herself! comes out, merely spitting out, "This is Swift-boating!" will serve to make people ignore the content. (They hope)

I think the dems are seeing this in their internal polling and are scared. They know they have to take her down, IMHO. What say you, oh learned one.
