Police Say Popular Website Becoming Haven for Prostitution

ATLANTA (FOX 5) – DeKalb County officials say prostitutes are moving their business from the streets to the internet and everyone should be concerned.

The world's oldest profession is going high-tech and prostitutes are now soliciting their customers over the internet. A DeKalb County prosecutor said that this new method is making it tougher to make arrests.

Solicitor Robert James said the problem is spiraling out of control, in part, because the website content is federally protected.

DeKalb County truck stops are popular spots for prostitutes looking for a steady stream of business, but DeKalb County Solicitor Robert James said a growing number of prostitutes have been taking their business online to the popular website, craigslist.com.

The services are found under the personal ads, but James said it is obvious these are not people looking for long-term relationships.

"This is blatantly illegal, they're using price lists," said James.

James said many of the online call girls are bypassing pimps and inviting potential customers to meet them at a location selected by the prostitute.

James said the prostitutes used to make a lot of money on main thorough fares, but it was easier for cops to make arrests. Now that many prostitutes are taking their business to cyberspace, the veil of virtual anonymity has made it much more difficult for police to arrest them.

This is blatantly illegal, they’re using price lists,” said James.

Prostitution or price lists are illegal.

Also cops need to come into the 21st century, prostitutes are out foxing cops and they are whining.

Governments purpose is to get in between everyone and their business, and then charge them for the service. Who’s the prostitute again?

Somebody either put my phone number on there, claiming I’m a 22 year old woman looking for a guy, or it was just an evil mistake. I started getting calls at 1:45AM on a very early Friday morning.

Gee, before the days of the internet, I seem to recall yellow pages ads for ‘escort services.’

Everything old...

I got a great new Dyson vaccuum cleaner for $275. Retail for ‘em is over $400.00.

Craigslist: Great for finding things that are really good at sucking.

So watch for more calls for Federal legislation regulating internet content.

It's depressing. The generally good people in the social conservative wing of the republican party will be an accomplice to handing over the power to the government that will one day be used against them. And everyone else, for that matter.

Maybe the problem would be reduced if Craigslist didn’t have a “erotic” services section.

Because that would make them some of the most dishonest, dishonorable, cowardly, scumbag bullies in the history of a decreasingly civilized humankind.

First they complain about street prostitutes, now they complain when they get off the streets. Can’t satisfy some people.

Good and Bad

The good of the internet is free market economies

The bad is - how good do we want to allow? (or can allow?)
