Clinton camp fires back over column Sat Nov 17, 2007 6:34pm EST
By Mark Felsenthal
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top Democratic rivals for president tore into each other on Saturday after a conservative columnist asserted front-runner Hillary Clinton claimed to have damaging information about Barack Obama.
The Clinton campaign denied the accusation, saying Obama's reaction to the vaguely worded column by Robert Novak played into Republican hands and showed the Illinois senator's lack of political savvy.
Obama's team later said they took the Clinton campaign at its word but bristled at the idea they fell for Republican tricks and should not have fought back against "smear politics" in the race for the presidency in the November 2008 election.
Clinton, a senator from New York and the wife of former President Bill Clinton, has been the target of frequent attacks by Obama and some of the other Democratic contenders for the White House over her ability to deliver straight answers.
Novak, a syndicated columnist, wrote: "Agents of Sen. Hillary Clinton are spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent for the party's presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, but has decided not to use it."
Novak did not specify the information or give more details about its source.
Obama, a first-term senator seeking to portray himself as an alternative to traditional Washington politics, seized on the article and said Clinton should either come forward with any information she has or repudiate Novak's column.

Huma Abedin.
Google her.
Really? Who would have known ...
Might win her some votes in the gay/lesbian community, but it’ll cost her votes with conservative Dems and in the African Amercian camps. Being outted is a losing issue for her.
Robert Novak is a registered democrat.
Novak is not a DemocRAT.
Don’t you just love it when Hillary acts like she would never use dirt on a fellow democrat? Yeah Hillary, Obama is really crazy to think you’d play dirty politics.
Any skank broad that would hire someone to keep the women her husband had raped quiet, is capable of anything.
Obama, watch the family...
I notice that the Roto-Rooter network didn't say who it was who actually provided the information to Novak, that being Richard Armitage. Libby didn't have anything to do with her being 'outed'.
He may not be, but he's registered as one.
I agree that she will lose votes with the conservative Dems. I also believe there will be a HUGE PR build up to her choosing a wounded Hussein Obama as her running mate which will be billed as America’s ultimate dream ticket. Chris Matthews will be ejaculating in his pants every nite talking about it and 99% of the African American community will be on board.Hussein will make a deal with the devil, presenting their ticket as the last hope for America and, the rumor will have been released and dismissd by the time he is chosen.
Anyway, the majority voters in the peoples' republik of Illinois are in the bag for her. So, he would add nothing to her run for the presidency.
By the way, is there a Fort Hussein Park in DC?

“A Republican-leaning journalist...”
Isn’t interesting that not even the beast’s camp could bring itself to call novak a Republican or a conservative? Under the stress of the moment the truth slipped out - well almost.
Also - dont dismiss the MSM influence here. They will absolutely give them a free ride the whole way, just drooling every night about the infinite possibilities for America to overcome it's racist and chauvenistic past.
I hope I'm wrong but it wouldnt surprise me.
1. Open a new file in your computer.
2. Name it "Hillary Rodham Clinton"
3. Send it to the trash.
4. Empty the trash.
5. Your PC will ask you, "Do you really want to get rid of "Hillary Rodham Clinton?"
6. Firmly Click "Yes."
7. Feel better?
PS: Next week we'll do Nancy Pelosi
Oh, no, Bob Novak...
The RAT race is so over.
Geography, number of electoral votes in a given state, etc. are the realities governing a VP selection.
Emotional desires and wishful thinking play no part in the big-league decisions on such a critical choice.
Obama will NOT be the choice......even the Dems will not base their thinking on the media's capricious desires at any given time. The media wants a socialist to be sure, but will settle for one other than Hussein when the pedal meets the metal.
Presidential candidates will choose their running mates after consultations. In history, some veep wannabees have even been forced on the prez candidate, despite their inner objections.

All true. I just think the dynamics are different this year. We’ll know soon enough.
