I think that the Attorney General runoff is important, as well.

Senate 32 candidate Neil Riser (R) was on the GOP State Central Committe with me from 96 to 00. Good people. I think he will win.

Bummer. I guess Caldwell had too much name I.D.

Man, Alexander is really tanking. I figured he’d pick up a little bit, but it looks like he’s barely budged from the primary vote. He’s even behind in St. Tammany Parish.

I don’t know this for a fact, but I suspect he never had planned what to do in a runoff. This was his firts political race and he was bumfuzzled when all of a sudden he had another race to run.

Damn it all, doesn’t look like Ruth Ulrich is gonna make it. The teachers union turned out against her, you can count on.

Reasons why Alexander lost:
1.) Caldwell played the experience card, while Alexander never ran for office before
2.) Jindal and prominant LA Republicans didn’t campaign for him
3.) The media pretty much ignored him or said he couldn’t win
4.) Too many Republicans endorsed Caldwell
5.) No hot race to generate turnout
6.) Caldwell’s good ol’ boy image played very well, right down to his nickname “Buddy.”

May have been in Meridian, MS in the 70s - the Navy Chief Personnelman I worked for might well have used it. Chief Ford was from Mena, Arkansas.

Y’know, we still haven’t won either the AG’s offices in LA or MS since Reconstruction.

Looks like Neil Riser has it in the bag in Senate 32. Excellent news.

I think Suzanne Terrell against Foti in 2003 may have been the closest we got to it. She lost 54%-46%.

In 1979, Charles Pickering, Sr. (later to be a filibustered judge) won 49% in a race for state MS Attorney General, a remarkable showing for a Republican back then.
