Romney plays down health care [As RomneyCare proves to be big gov boondoggle]

Romney plays down health care

As Massachusetts governor, he tackled universal coverage

As governor, Mitt Romney signed the country's first comprehensive attempt at universal health coverage. On the presidential campaign trail, he has not put health care reform at the top of his agenda, nor has he embraced the central goal of the Massachusetts plan - universal coverage - as an appropriate target for the country.

The story sounds like classic stump-speech material.

A business leader and friend of then-Gov. Mitt Romney suggested he could make his mark if he solved Massachusetts's health care woes. Romney, a former consultant, took up the challenge, crunched the numbers and developed a framework for insuring nearly everyone in the commonwealth. Two years later, through an impressive feat of bipartisan cooperation between the governor's office and the legislature, he signed the country's first comprehensive attempt at universal health coverage.

"An achievement like this comes around once in a generation," he said on the day he signed the bill in April 2006.

Now there's a hell of a campaign talking point, he added another layer of socialism to the the most left-wing state in America.

Didn’t he ‘splain it by playing the “I had to in order to get along with the Democrat majority” card?

Hey, Romney-ites, how do you explain this one?

The same way they've been covering it up all along, some BS about how it's not really socialism because instead of directly using taxpayer money they forced the "evil" corporations to pay for it.

“I’d love to get him drunk and ask him, ‘If you had to do this over again, would you do this?’ We’ll have to wait,” he said.

Maybe then too we could find out what he really thinks about all the issues, instead of using carefully crafted responses.

Explain what? The fake headline that Jim Robinson fabricated for this thread?

From the article:

“lawmakers significantly expanded and changed elements of the governor’s original proposal. “

Also from the article:

“They (the social conservative wing of the Republican Party) really don’t want a president who’s going to be making big changes in health care,” he said. “But independents would find it very attractive.”

In other words, why play up during a primary a health insurance plan to woo social conservatives who really aren’t interested, rather than wait until the general election when it is an issue he can use to lure independents?

In other words, If he can FAKE being a conservative long enough to fool Republicans into nominating him, He can go back to being the NE liberal he always was!

Telling people that there will no longer be a free ride at the ER *IS* a conservative Republican platform.

And the only way you can, in good conscience, eliminate free-loaders at the ER is to require that everyone is either insured, or can demonstrate the ability to pay.

I think it’s a great idea.

Is Romney really playing down health care?

Then how do you explain this headline from another thread:

“Romney Talks Immigration, Health Care”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1927650/posts

The author of that article you posted may have let a little liberal bias slip through, don’t you think? Of course, I’m always suspicious of women with hyphenated names. That’s usually (but not always) a dead giveaway of a person’s political bent.

The only thing “Slick” on this thread, is the way that you were able to sneak in a fake headline.

From the article: “lawmakers significantly expanded and changed elements of the governor’s original proposal. “

And you don't think that's his fault? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that once you pass universal compulsory healthcare, especially in a left-wing state, it will soon be loaded up with stuff like cheap abortions and socialist regulations. And no doubt free sex change operations and euthanasia coming soon.

In fact, the cheap mandatory abortion coverage was already in the plan when Romney signed the damned thing. And he's surely smart enough to know what would happen after he saddled the state with it and left office.

Wrong, the government forcing people into a government controlled and subsidized health insurance plan is socialism. No conservative should go along with this tyranny. No American should.
