Potential Clinton-Romney matchup stirs echoes
Boston Globe ^ | November 18, 2007 | Michael Levenson

Posted on 11/19/2007 4:28:43 AM PST by Romneyfor President2008

As Mitt Romney contemplates a potential presidential matchup next November against Hillary Clinton, his supporters believe he has a leg up: He already knows how to beat a Democratic insider, a woman with strong political connections, and a tough, well-oiled campaign operation.

Former aides say Romney's winning campaign against state Treasurer Shannon P. O'Brien in the 2002 Massachusetts gubernatorial race showed that Romney could gracefully navigate issues of gender, power, and party politics sure to arise in a contest with Clinton.

The leading GOP contenders all say they would be the strongest standard-bearer against Clinton, but Romney himself has cited the O'Brien race as proof of his ability to defeat Clinton.

But while most veterans of the 2002 gubernatorial race agree there are some similarities between O'Brien and Clinton, they say Clinton would be a far more formidable adversary because of her fund-raising ability and her experience fending off Republican attacks.

Romney/Huckabee vs Hillary/Vilsack.

I've been predicting those 2008 tickets for weeks here.

The advantage Mitt would have, is that he can simultaneously run both to the left and right of Hillary.

Romney/Huckabee vs Hillary/Vilsack

Our side desperately needs someone with military service whether it is first or second position I don’t care. We are at war and need someone who can understand that.

That ticket is the Boston Globe’s and Hillary’s wet dream.

Romney is NO chance, which is why he is pushed so much
by the MSM and the Dems.
The GOP had better wake up pronto.

Romney is Hillary? Some amount of hyperbole is acceptable, but come on. Every GOP candidate is flawed. Romney is by no means unacceptable, particularly given our choices.

It can be acceptable.

The only difference between Rudy and Romney, is Romney is at least willing to pretend to have recently become a conservative.

O’Brian was a non accomplished dolt and female party hack that the Democrat powers thew up. She was uneducated and not bright. Thomas Dewey could of beaten her, and he’s dead. The only other time Mitt ever ran for any office, he ran against Ted Kennedy and Ted worked him over as Mitt tried to out Democrat the Democrats of Democrats.

Still, Romney gave Teddy the closest Senate race he has ever had and at one point, was leading the swimmer in the polls.

I believe that deep down, Romney is more conservative on social issues than Rudy because of his Mormon background. Thus, I trust him more to appoint judges who at least lean conservative to the USSC. In my mind, this election primarily concerns future Supreme Court appointees. We are only one Justice away.

we need an attack dog in order to pound clinton in the ground. Rudy is the obvious choice.

Rudy is the only hope for Rockefeller Rudpublicans to split the party and take control. Because the 8 candidates are carving up 70% of the party, that 30% RINO block looks very formidable.

Nothing better to defeat a Angry ugly stupid Democrat Woman, than a cool suave intelligent Republican man who thinks good on his feet. The contrast makes the woman look like she is in an acute hormonal imbalance.

I tend to agree, I suspect that Romney was just saying what he felt he had to say to get elected when he took all those far left positions while running against Kennedy. However, the willingness to say whatever it takes, is also what scares me about Romney.
