Murtha denounces Defense Department for 'scaring peoplin funds fight

WASHINGTON - In their latest tussle with the White House on the Iraq war, two leading House Democrats said Tuesday the Pentagon was using scare tactics to try to goad Congress into passing another war spending bill.

And Reps. David Obey and John Murtha said they won't bite.

Obey, D-Wis., chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and Murtha, D-Pa., head of the panel's Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said they won't support more money for the war this year unless President Bush accepts a timetable for troop withdrawals. Story continues below ↓advertisement

Last week, the House passed a $50 billion bill that would keep operations afloat for several more months, but sets a goal of bringing most troops home by December 2008. After Bush threatened to veto the measure, Senate Republicans blocked it.

"If the president wants that $50 billion released, all he has to do is to call the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, and ask him to stop blocking it," Obey told reporters.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Friday signed a memo ordering the Army to begin planning for a series of expected cutbacks, including the layoffs of as many as 100,000 civilian employees and another 100,000 civilian contractors, starting as early as January.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said the military has only limited transfer authority.

"Those who think we have some sort of flexibility here are simply misinformed," Whitman told reporters on Tuesday. "We've entered into a very serious period here."

Murtha said the Pentagon was issuing "irresponsible" propaganda.

Murtha sees no credibility at Defense Department "They're scaring people," he said. "They're scaring the families of the troops . . .That's the thing that's so despicable."

Murtha is a traitor and Obey continues to show that he meant what he said on the floor and his apology was a farce. Jerks.

No Murtha is lint and just like lint he serves no useful purpose and the US would be so much better off if he were to go away, far, far away. Amen.

Not only have they attached a "timetable" to the money the troops need, the Democrats (led by Sen. Kennedy) have tacked on an Unconstitutional "Hate Crimes" provision to the Pentagon budget!

This provision is primarily a gift to homosexuals and transsexuals who will be able to use it (if it becomes law) to silence and persecute Christians or any group that does not kowtow to the homosexual agenda.

The fate of a gay- and transgender-inclusive hate crimes bill was called into question this week when gay-supportive members of the House of Representatives threatened to vote against a defense authorization bill to which the measure is attached. As many as 20 House Democrats who are strong gay rights supporters indicated they might vote against the National Defense Authorization Act because it includes provisions that support President Bush’s efforts to continue the Iraq war, Capitol Hill sources said.

Hate-crimes provision puts defense bill on skids

So instead of giving our military the tools it needs to fight the enemy, Democrats are busy placating these pathetic, self-absorbed perverts.

"They're scaring people," he said. "They're scaring the families of the troops . . .That's the thing that's so despicable."

So the Defense Dept shouldn't let anyone know the firings are coming and just fire them? Would that be better, Mr. Murtha? What IS despicable is to defund the military just when they are winning.

These are the type of statements that will help with a Dem bloodbath in 08. Although many people disagree with the war, they do not approve of hanging the military out to dry to appease their moonbat base. This will be political strategic blunder of epic proportions. Just my opinion.

Murtha denounces Defense Department for 'scaring peoplin funds fight

What else is a good anti-patriot Democrat in power suppose to do when all is going so well in Iraq?

They need to change direction with their unpatriotic jargon and find another way to try and destroy everything good that our President is doing to protect our country.

There has to be a diplomatic way of giving the finger to a congressional colleague without physically doing it.

John al-Murtha has done everything in his power to demoralize the country, undermine the troops, and to try to make us lose this war. Now that we are clearly, incontrovertibly winning, he chooses to continue his vicious, depraved assaults on so many people much better than he is. Murtha is scum.

Can we impeach Congress? Is there anyone who thinks Congress is doing a good job?

If we can't impeach them all, can we arrest them all? All we gotta do is dig a little and we will be sure to find a reason to arrest each and everyone of them (except Hunter - I like Hunter).
