Thompson Woos Gun Rights Contingent
The New York Times ^ | November 25, 2007 | Marc Santora

Posted on 11/25/2007 4:20:02 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

LADSON, S.C., Nov. 24 — Joe McCormick, a burly man over six feet tall, a World War II-era Mauser rifle at his side, said he was frightened. “Giuliani scares me,” Mr. McCormick said of Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination. “What does a mayor of New York know about guns?”

Fred D. Thompson, who was about 30 yards away — just past the “Confederate Cutlery” collection of knives, fingering an M-1 rifle at the Land of Sky Gun Show here Saturday — was more his kind of candidate.

Mr. Thompson has been assiduously courting voters like Mr. McCormick, in stops in New Hampshire on Friday and South Carolina on Saturday, but also in Florida just as he was beginning his quest for the White House.

As Mr. Thompson, a former senator from Tennessee, struggles to make up for what even his supporters call a lackluster campaign, gun owners passionate about the right to bear arms is one group Mr. Thompson is counting on to bolster his efforts.

They had to work that "confederate" reference in there, didn't they? I am hopeful that the NRA will step up soon and endorse Fred in the primaries. That should shake up the race quite a bit!

That and the "fingering an M-1 rifle" comment. The anti-gun clowns have this hangup that only Sigmund Freud would understand. It gives away the writer of this article right from the get go.

just past the “Confederate Cutlery” collection of knives,
Confederate? A historical or antique display perhaps?

As Mr. Thompson,... struggles to make up for what even his supporters call a lackluster campaign,
No, his supporters don't call it lackluster. Why would the author say that?

While many of those interviewed here had not made up their minds
And how would the author know that? Did he interview everybody there?

He moved slowly from booth to booth,
Is he supposed to run?

looking admiringly over the various arsenals on display.
Arsenals? A table with an individual collection is an "arsenal?"

Mr. Thompson, jokingly referred to one reporter as a “Yankee”
The author of this hit piece perhaps?

In conversations with voters, Mr. Thompson disparaged “sanctuary cities,”
Commenting negatively on entire city governments flagrantly violating Federal Law is "disparaging?" Sound like "telling the truth" to me.

And then there is the light at the end of the tunnel... two paragraphs at the end on how Hillary is "talking tough" about the evil companies that actually force the poor downtrodden college students to repay their student loans. Apparently she wants some new government agency to completely take over the student loan industry in the plan that she "laid out."

Question! Why the hell are the Hillary comments in this article about Fred Thompson attending a Gun Show? Was Hillary at the Gun Show too?

Marc Santora, who was about 30 yards away — just past the “Metrosexual Trendy Green Coffee” collection at Starbucks, fingering a cell-phone reading a text message from the DNC, wearing a “Che” t-shirt— was more a “male” than a man, sources said.

See how easy it is?
