:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

Suicide bombing bill gets high-profile support

TORONTO — A roster of prominent Canadians is backing an effort by Senator Jerry Grafstein, left, to push through a bill that would make suicide bombing a criminal offence in Canada.

Grafstein’s private member’s bill, S-210, is a “made in Canada” solution to an international scourge and would bring suicide bombing within the definition of “terrorist activity” in the Criminal Code, said Reuben Bromstein, a retired judge and spokesperson for Canadians Against Suicide Bombing (CASB).

CASB has “blanketed” senators with e-mails, and traditional mail from supporters who believe Canadian lawmakers should take the lead in demonstrating to the world that Canada treats suicide bombing seriously, Bromstein said.

However, the bill appears to have stalled during second reading and is not advancing to the committee stage, where it can be studied and witnesses called to discuss its merits, he added......

Ok, I’ve read this twice.

What the ____ are they taking about?

BOMBING AND POSSESSION OF BOMBS AND POSSESSION OF BOMBING MATERIAL IS A CRIME IN CANADA, right?

So, now, if they want to add an enhancement, in case the suicider fails or survives somehow; so be it.

Ok, this last paragraph and may be enlightening:

ARTICLE SNIPPET (from post 542 link): “Grafstein said a practical application of the bill, if enacted, would be to “directly assist and enhance the prosecution of those unsuccessful suicide bombings and those who individually and collectively conspire to assist in suicide bombings.”

The CASB petition can be found at the organization’s wesite, www.canasb.ca.”

I read it a few times too, to make sure it wasn’t satire.

Proving Canadian politicians are no different animals than US politicians (all talk, no action, no explanation).

Maybe if they could see the results of homicide bombing; there would be less discussion.

China’s Hu praises military, scientists-(for their anti-satellite programs)

BEIJING - President Hu Jintao congratulated China’s military and scientists at a ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the successful launch of a moon probe.

Hu devoted much of a live nationwide television broadcast to praising the country’s socialist system, along with its military and scientific community, for ensuring the success of the Chang’e 1 lunar satellite.

China launched the probe in late October with plans to have it survey the entire surface of the moon over the next year. It began sending photos back to Earth several weeks ago.

“Our deep-space exploration is for peaceful purposes,” Hu told an audience of Communist Party officials, schoolchildren and military officers gathered at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.
