Bush Threatens Veto of Spending Bill
CNN Late Edition ^ | Dec 3, 2007

"We're going to continue to try to see if we can't get in place a timetable for the removal of most of the troops that we have there," Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., said on CNN's "Late Edition." "Congress should be able to state a goal for the removal of most of the American troops without a veto threat."

A quote from CNN Late Edition. If Carl Levin is talking about a non binding goal added to any legislation, we are well on our way to a compromise that funds victory.

We can only hope he will not be reined in over the rest of today.

In a desperate attempt to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I expect nothing less from comb over Carl....

I agree with this idea. Let Congressional Democrats state their goal, then totally ignore it.

Yes, Congress should be able to state a goal for cutting and running that ignores the wishes of the troops, their commanders, and the Commander in Chief, without a veto threat, but why would they want to do so? MoveOn.org and the DailyKosmonauts got their purse strings wrapped tightly round the Democrat's 'jones?

It’s called a non-binding resolution.

Precisely. Non binding will fund victory. “Goal language” may throw enough of a bone to the far left to get it through. The problem is they may want this goal language for 6 months of funding. Their true goal is to force defeat onto the troops before Bush leaves office.

This rhetoric needs to stop being about Bush and start being about “imposing a lifetime of shame on the young men and women in combat who were on the very cusp of victory when they were forced to surrender by Democrats.” Make it be about the troops’ victory, not about Bush’s. That pressures the Democrats from conservative districts.

Vote? What vote? Funding vote? You bet some aide is going to pay for not keeping me informed on this important matter. Good help is so hard to find.
