I guess Rudy’s funny accounting of his tryst really hurt him among the GOP

If he were a Dem, it would have been a resume enhancer.

Also saw this on NRO this morning.

Republican Favorable Ratings Rising   [Byron York]

A new Gallup poll shows an across-the-board increase in the favorable ratings of major Republican presidential candidates – with the exception of Rudy Giuliani, who until recently had the highest favorable ratings of any Republican.  According to the new rankings, John McCain now has the highest favorable rating of any candidate, with Giuliani second.

The poll shows Mike Huckabee's favorable rating jumped 15 points in the last three weeks, from 18 percent to 33 percent.  (Huckabee's unfavorable rating ticked downward, from 18 percent to 16 percent.)  Fred Thompson's favorable rating went up ten points, from 29 percent to 39 percent.  (His unfavorable rating also went down, from 28 percent to 26 percent.)  Mitt Romney's favorable rating went up eight points, from 28 percent to 36 percent, while his unfavorable rating went down a point, from 31 percent to 30 percent.  And McCain's favorable rating also went up eight points from 47 percent to 55 percent, while his unfavorable fell from 34 percent to 30 percent.  As for Giuliani, his favorable rating fell from 55 percent to 52 percent, with his unfavorable rating jumping from 32 percent to 37 percent.

During the same period, there was little change among Democrats, who already had higher favorable ratings than several Republicans.  Hillary Clinton's favorable rating went down five points, from 52 percent to 47 percent, while her unfavorable rating went up from 45 percent to 50 percent.  Barack Obama's favorable rating stayed the same, at 53 percent, while his unfavorable rating ticked upward from 30 percent to 33 percent.  John Edwards' favorable rating also stayed the same, at 50 percent, while his unfavorable rating went from 31 percent to 35 percent.

I wish it were Fred instead of Huckabee, but if Huckabee can knock off Rudy so Fred can pull in front, then so be it.

With a 4 point MOE, isn’t this essentially a statistical 5-way tie?

What I find fascinating is we basically have a "battle Royale" between two of the strongest bases in the Republican Party.

On one side we have the social conservatives with Huckabee, and on the other we have the WOT conservatives with Rudy.

It will also be interesting to watch any Florida polls coming out. If Huckabee continues to surge their, it may be over for the other 2nd place candidates. Rudy must also either win, or be extremely competitive for his dominance to continue. I give him a little more breathing room only because in the big States of Super Tuesday he has such huge margins over the others, and that is where the majority of his delegates are coming from.

I have been predicting a Rudy vs Mitt race for awhile, but I may be changing my mind. Those early primaries are becoming more and more important (who said Iowa and NH no longer matter), if the momentum of Huck overtakes Mitt, he will be strong. And we MUST take into consideration the perception that Southern Governors are the most electable.

Rasmussen's table shows Fred Thompson tied with Rudy Giuliani. Not Huckabee. Weird. Someone goofed.

I think the Huckster will be a shooting star. He is too vulnerable on hot-button issues for conservatives: immigration and taxes.

Look at McCain at 14%.

He's within striking distance of leading.

What this may show is a cluster of five candidates who are nearing equivalence.

Since four of them are arguably conservatives, or at least pretending to be conservatives, this suggests that about 70% of the party is supporting conservative candidates.

After the first conservative candidate is forced out, things will begin to clarify.

My money is on Sen. McCain as the first casualty.

After he drops out, we’ll see which of the three remaining conservative candidates picks up the bulk of his support, and I think that that person will be the nominee.

I think that Mr. Giuliani is toast.

Rudy at 18, maybe as low at 14 with the MOE ... Bwaaaahahaha!!

Guess him trying laugh off and dismiss his illegal Bookkeeping scam, abusing and misusing the taxpayers money, aka Public Funds, and having the NYPD play Taxi Service and Dog Walker for his MISTRESS as 'old news' and a 'hit job', etc. ain't flying.

And illegal it was.
Some Chicago suburban officials (Harvey, IL) have recently been indicted - and WILL BE CONVICTED (Fitz doesn't lose) -- for basically doing the same thing Rooty did with NY City funds, the NYPD and City Credit Cards.

So in the very near future me thinks Rooty will be looking for a 'favorable poll' from 12 jurors of his peers.

It is just AWESOME to see Rudy to continue to drop!!

As we have said all along, the more that everyone gets to know a liberal like Rudy and his liberal buddies--the more he will drop.

Personally I think Huckabee is a joke and subjects the entire party to ridicule.

I'll vote in the primary and I will support the nominee.
