Mike Huckabee: In the words of those conservatives who know him best
Here are some recent statements on the character and background of recent conservative favorite Mike Huckabee:
Phyllis Schlafly, president of Eagle Forum:
He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles ... Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a compassionate conservative are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee.
Betsy Hagan, Arkansas director of the Eagle Forum and a key backer of his early runs for office:
He was pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise a liberal ... Just like Bill Clinton he will charm you, but dont be surprised if he takes a completely different turn in office.
Blant Hurt, former columnist for Arkansas Business magazine:
He has zero intellectual underpinnings in the conservative movement ... Hes hostile to free trade, hiked sales and grocery taxes, backed sales taxes on Internet purchases, and presided over state spending going up more than twice the inflation rate.
Paul Pressler, former Texas judge and conservative member of the Southern Baptist Convention (of which Huckabee is a minister and former head):
I know of no conservative he appointed while he headed the Arkansas Baptist Convention.
Conservative Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund:
Mr. Huckabee was the only GOP candidate to refuse to endorse President Bushs veto of the Democrats bill to vastly expand the Schip health-care program. Only he and John McCain have endorsed the discredited cap-and-trade system to limit global-warming emissions that has proved a fiasco in Europe.
I think that's probably true for every voter in a state with their primary after February 5. There's no real rush to support a candidate because we'll probably know on February 6 who it is.
That's way before I get to vote.
Huckabee Hound is being touted by the lefty media because they know he would lose to any Dem candidate in the general election. That’s also why Bubba loves him.
That sounds good. I think that would pull the boys into some clearer contrasts.

WHOA, baby! And from CNN, no less...
That’s not good news for the Huckster.
The truth ALWAYS hurts. I am not falling for the Huckster BS
Maybe we ought to get behind this guy. OK he’s a tax and spender and soft on immigration (at least he was in Arkansas). BUT there is no real conservative in this race that can win. The closest would be Fred, but he is unexciting to the populace and has too little energy to sell his good ideas. Huckster, on the other hand, is ARTICULATE which is a great welcome change from Bush! He is pro-life, pro-traditional family, wants to WIN the war in Iraq, says he would to appoint constitutionalist judges, is willing to take on the IRS, and can appeal to the Reagan Democrats. He can beat the Rats.
I’ll say it again and again:
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
Can anything or anyone good come out of Arkansas?
And I’ll answer that with a resounding NO!
The fact that they want a GOP candidate who can be beaten.
Remember how much the MSM liked Bob Dull in 1996?
Either Boom Boom HuckJam peaked too soon, and the scrutiny of being the front runner will cause him to collapse as Fred fills the void, or he will be the nominee. I don’t see anyone but Fred or Mike getting the nomination. If I had to make a prediction, in this media driven culture, Boom Boom has the big advantage because of his personality appeal among independents and undecided voters.
Huckabee wanted rapist set free; rapist then raped and murdered another woman.

Who are the Gomers supporting this Gomer? He appears to be running for Appeaser In Chief. Working overtime to appease dims and terrorists the world over.
I’m not so sure anyone is shifting to the Huckster.
Yep! I like Huckabee, he’s not my top choice, but he’s a better choice than ANY Democrat. I like all of the Republican candidates compared to the RATS. We need to stop shooting holes in our own boat.
My choices are: Hunter first with Thompson or Huckabee tied for second and Keyes third.
Great choices! And, like Mick Jagger once whined: "You can't always get what you want"! But, like you say -- we need to stop this circular firing-squad. I'll swear, every time a candidate is mentioned, we get a chorus on here of "Well, if that so-and-so is nominated, I'll go elsewhere with my vote. Why, do you know he pushed scholarships for brilliant immigrants????" No, it's not an ideal slate, but it is the hand we are dealt. Most poker games are won with less than the best possible hand!!!
