COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - The South Carolina affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee has endorsed Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson.

South Carolina Citizens for Life on Wednesday praised the former Tennessee senator's voting record on abortion issues. In a news release, the group cited Thompson's vote against so-called partial-birth abortion and his stance for adult stem cell research but not embryonic stem cell research.

Thompson has touted his anti-abortion voting record during his campaign. He has already been endorsed by the committee's national group.

He also got this:
“The Wisconsin Right to Life PAC is proud to endorse Fred Thompson,” said Susan Armacost, WRTL/PAC Director. “Fred Thompson’s stellar 100% right to life voting record and his personal commitment to the protection of human life is deeply appreciated by our organization. We strongly believe in his ability to win the presidential election.”

What about the Iowa Right to Life group? That would be a big endorsement and might swing the situation in Iowa.

I had a source for a breaking story on Freerepublic (about how Charles Grassley could have been the chair of the Judiciary Committee instead of Arlen Specter).

That was an important story to pro-lifers, and that was big news on Freerepublic because of fears that Arlen might double cross conservatives as head of the Judiciary Committee.

Turns out Iowa Right to Life has a strict policy not to endorse a candidate especially if there are multiple pro-life candidates (which is true on the Republican side).

Iowa Right to Life is one of the more powerful state Right to Life affliiates in the country...
