"The conservative base in this country has discovered in Mike Huckabee a real person; not some wishy-washy politition.",

Gotta give that to the Huckster -- he consistently takes big gov't positions. No waffling there.

This is off-topic, but I REALLY want to move to Florida. I currently live in the Peoples Republic of New Jersey.

I’m not disagreeing with it - I’m saying there is no way Congress will pass it or the HRA.

Yep... eliminating the IRS is big government.

Actually, IMHO Glenn did not use good sense going on Diane Sawyer’s show with only two hours sleep. He also didn’t have a clue that Dr. Land would be there, and that under any circumstance would eat Glenn’s lunch.

If the Fair Tax is your issue, vote for the guy who promises it. No argument against that at all. However, can the candidate deliver on this? That’s what I’m asking.

He can't deliver it if we don't vote for him. If that's really our issue.... we vote for a president who will sign it. And congressmen and senators who will pass it. That's how the system works.

If we're not willing to do that... then griping about it is just whining.

The governor of Arkansas cannot start or stop pardons.

Oh hell, don’t we all want a flat tax for personal reasons ?

Sheesh, I don’t care why some one wants to eliminate the IRS and the confiscatory tax rates we now have. I just want to do it.

I agree with what you said. The only difference is that I can’t decide whether only one or two candidates is an embarrassment or it’s the whole field. Maybe I’m just asking too much. I hear you, though.

This was exactly what I was getting at:
“And congressmen and senators who will pass it.”

What exactly does Tax Hike Mike want to replace the IRS with, an even bigger tax collecting agency? His record on taxes in clear. ...and on record.

sure we all want a flat tax for personal reasons. Forbes told us repeatedly that he was doing this for america. For the poor over taxed people. For the kids or whatever. But now we want to question the motives of Huckabee. Like he’s just saying this because he knows he can’t get it done. Mayhbe, just maybe he happens to agree with us about the tax laws in this country.

The Governor CAN issues pardons. He cannot parole someone - but he can make it clear he wants it done. He can also indicate that, if the parole doesn’t come thru, he will pardon.

It would be interesting to know what the vote count was on these laws his state passed that he signed. It would be interesting to know if a veto could have been sustained on each.

He was governor of Arkansas. Right?

>I currently live in the Peoples Republic of New Jersey.

I feel your pain, Sam.
I used to live right next to Valley Forge, Pa.
In fact I still own property up there, and go back and forth on a regular basis. - Love the area. - Grew up there.

There are things that I miss, but truth be told, I could not have been successful there, as I became here.
- and it was a long process to really see that - the many differences in the economic and business climate between here and there.

Suffice it to say that here I prospered, there I struggled.
But if you do come you will have to bid goodbye to many things.

State and local income taxes.
Auto inspections.
Fees and taxes on everything in the world that you need from the government itself.

Want auto tags? Just go to the local office and pay 25 bucks or so and they hand you the plate right there.

Want to start a business? Easy as pie.
Want to worry about unions and union controlled job markets in a right to work state? Nah ...

There are counter points though.
You have to pick the area that you move to to most accurately fit the way that you want to live and work.

I.e, don’t move to Cement City, aka, Miami. 8^)
Unless, of course, that is what you want.

If you are trying to say that tax hikes in Arkansas were passed over the objections of Huckabee, that’s just not true. There is audio out there of him speaking to his legislature about the whole slate of possible tax increases they could vote on. He basically told them whatever way they could come up with to raise taxes, he would go along with. Maybe that’s some ‘new’ conservative doctrine, but I’ll pass. Conservatives DO NOT raise taxes to pay for bigger government. Conservatives ALSO do not borrow to pay for bigger government.
