Huckabee’s a sht sandwich...
The highest level of office Mr. Huckabee should reach is Governor. He is not a national candidate.
I gave you a list of specific examples of dishonesty.
You call me names.
Who is posting on emotion, not thought?
Okay, you’ve got me laughing now. Are you implying that the American electorate is gullible? *mock disgust*
“Almost seems like way too many Americans, if you believe polls, are very easily swayed”
—umm, this country voted in Bill Clinton twice (I don’t care that he didn’t get a majority, he got enough votes to win. That’s condemnation enough.)
—Kerry was pretty damn close to winning.
—Hilary, despite all her shady dealings, has a very good number of supporters.
You don’t need polls to see that us Americans are easily swayed.
What I find fascinating is watching someone move up in the polls and all the supporters from the other candidates rise up and talk about the guy like he was evil incarnate. Every candidate in the race has his problems. There aren’t any saints running.
I agree that the Republican leadership is beyond stupid, beyond moronic, in their stupid moronic adherence to the divine right of Iowa and NH to be first.
Based on almost every poll it looks like Fred is dead but we will see if the polls are right
Nobody here in Florida even cares about Iowa, and I'm not kidding.
After January 29th and when the 2nd week of February rolls around, we shall see who is standing, and what value a dozen or so electoral votes even have in the new political landscape.
The parole board members lied to the media about Huckabee’s involvement. They are mad about losing their $75,000 a year jobs. Isn’t it convenient that they are only now coming out to say this?
There is not a single candidate on either side that I agree with 100% of everything they are campaigning on. But we could do lots worse than Huckabee. Surely you're not trying to convince us that Rudi or Romney are more trustworthy and more conservative than Huckabee???
That's not even half way believable.
Chalk up another Evangelical for Rudy.
Iowa Republicans.
The realclearpolitics.com average has Mike Huckabee leading Mitt Romney 27 to 25 percent, with 12 for Rudy Giuliani and 11 for Fred Thompson.
As I've pointed out in my U.S. News column this week, Huckabee gets most of his support in Iowa from evangelical Christians, and they account for a much larger share of Iowa caucusgoers (about 38 percent) than New Hampshire primary voters (about 18 percent). Huckabee, even if he wins in Iowa, has to expand his base to be close to winning in New Hampshire. Obviously, Giuliani and John McCain would like to see a Huckabee win in Iowa, which they hope will deflate Romney's current lead in New Hampshire (below) to their benefit.
New Hampshire Republicans.
Even so, Romney's lead in New Hampshire has, so far, pretty well held up. He's averaging a lead of 34 percent to 18 percent over Giuliani and 16 for McCain. New Hampshire historically has had an aversion to southerners, and the figures for them are discouraging: 10 percent for Huckabee, 6 for Ron Paul, 3 for Thompson. (In retrospect, it wasn't very wise for Thompson to skip the New Hampshire debate to announce on Jay Leno.)
Romney's position here is the only serious lead anyone has in the Iowa caucus or New Hampshire primary polling. But one can't regard it as etched in stone. Republican voters, to judge from polling, are less firmly committed than Democrats, who aren't all that firmly committed themselves; and one can imagine these numbers shifting significantly should Romney lose in Iowa. A window of opportunity, maybe, for McCain and, maybe, for Giuliani.

I didn’t call you any names! Go read the post again. Your the one calling names. I guess you’re just upset your man is losing. Don’t take it out on the rest of us.
Exactly what I think.
“but I know Congress will NEVER give up its power to use taxes...” Congress isn’t going to let go of their cookie jar on the off-chance (in their opinion) that the Fair Tax will give them the same or greater revenue than the current system.
Lots of people think their candidate is going to wave a magic wand and get rid of all these agencies and tax policies. Sounds great, but we need to seriously ask ourselves “Can candidate X really do what he’s claiming to do? Does the office of president really have the power to do these things?” or is the candidate just pandering to what we’d like to hear?
If we’re not going to vote for a candidate who is campaigning on eliminating the IRS... then we need to quit ranting about needing to eliminate the IRS. We need to just shut up about creating a fair tax if we aren’t going support somebody wanting to do it.
Exactly. At least Steve Forbes was HONEST about wanting a flat tax.
Exactly!
Huckabee is campaiging on a flat tax and some of us don't want to believe him simply because he used to be a preacher. Isn't that the bottom line?
Huck is the definition of a wishy-washy politician.
He lies about his record and tries to push responsibility for his decisions onto others.
I’d rather have Hitlery than the Huckster; at least we’d know the evil she represents.
concur
I’m not thrilled out of my socks by any of the candidates. However, I consider Paul and Huckabee to both be embarrassments. Huckabee is running right now to win Iowa & SC. The statements he is making to do so will hurt him in most other states.
Julie is inching up in Florida, with a commanding lead over the rest. I’m not as worried about Huckabee winning as I am that Huckabee will unite the non-social issue voters behind ‘The Mayor’. Because in many states, by late January, whoever is seen as stopping Huckabee will win the primaries.
To put it another way - I became a Christian at 13, and am now 49. I’ve been a rabid republican for years, although GWB & immigration & spending have been hard on me. If Huckabee wins the nomination, I’ll either sit out the general or vote democrat - that is how strongly I oppose his ‘A vote for me is a vote for God’ shtick.
I think either the Mayor or the Huckster will split the Party and give the election to the Democrats.
