Vanity - Liberals Lamenting the Loss of Traditional Culture
Myself ^ | 12/11/07 | Onelifetogive

I was just watching a Discovery Channel program on the Three Gorges Dam Project in China. Predictable, the show lamented the loss of traditional culture among the 1,000,000 or so people in the future reservoir above the dam. In one segment, they discussed one village that would have to be moved 500 yards up-hill (to end up EXACTLY at the water's edge , as they currently are) and how they would lose their "village tree"...

The loss of the slightest amount of "traditional culture" is abhorrent to all leftists, unless we are talking about "traditional American culture"; which they can't destroy fast enough.

What is it with these leftists? It is as if they see all other peoples of the world as zoo or museum exhibits, to be preserved in their natural state for the enjoyment of the leftists. Leftists are allowed to be "progressives", but no one else is allowed to progress.

Nailed it.

Liberals are arrogant condescending twits. Sure of their superiority, they look down their noses at the humble peasants and expect everyone else to bow to them and their vaulted opinions.

Socialist Utopians have a god complex and want to create a perfect image in their image.

The quaint village customs of lower cultures make for a nice break from the hustle and flow of big city living. They consider remote regions “unspoiled” by modern conveniences.

Wonder how many of them are pushing for Chinese women to work outside of the home or avoid marriage.

They sought to tear down the establishment and ended up BECOMING the New Establishment.

They bemoan child labor. If the kids weren’t making shoes, they’d be gutting fish, or harvesting rice, or working the sex trade.

If the families didn’t need the money, the kids wouldn’t be working.

I would yoink that for a tag line if it wasn't so long. Which is to say, I tried and it didn't fit.

They consider remote regions “unspoiled” by modern conveniences.

And yet, they choose to live in a modern world...

"It is as if they see all other peoples of the world as zoo or museum exhibits, to be preserved in their natural state for the enjoyment of the leftists."

Very well put. This is why I absolutely hate the whole UN climate fines that are supposed to send billions of $ to "help" developing countries conform to leftist hysteria about global warming. It's just going to keep these 3rd world nations poor, but "pristine".

Exactly.

Liberals have become, exactly what they once hated.

In every way.

Libertarians, are what liberals once thought they wanted to be.

“It is as if they see all other peoples of the world as zoo or museum exhibits,”

They certainly do. I worked with a “save the rain forest” type some years ago. He really could not understand why any rain forest tribesman would want to have anything from the outside world. Would go on and on and on about native cultures being destroyed. But whenever I suggested he try living in that fashion for a few years he would shut right up. He was, is and shall always be.....a A**hat.

Do not be fooled. They hate traditional culture. Heck, they hate real culture of any kind, and real tradition of any kind, let alone their intersection. But they hate industry and progress and development for the sake of mankind, even more. To them, building something that changes the natural world, for the sake of profit of any kind, is the root of all evil, sheer devilry, and any stick is good enough to whack at it.

Which is a side effect of swallowing three generations of communist propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

I would go the other way on this. The disruptions of this dam are so extreme and so shocking, that they rock even the liberals, who would normally be inclined to praise to high heaven the efforts of the ChiComs.

I don’t know how to even construct a parallel for the U.S.
This goes far beyond the TVA, that’s for sure.
