Former Iran president: U.S. intelligence report was leaked by Democrats or independent groups
al Bawaba ^ | December 13 2007

Posted on 12/12/2007 1:50:09 PM PST by knighthawk

Chairman of the Experts Assembly Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Wednesday that the "important" report issued by 16 US intelligence agencies is neither against Tehran nor benefits Washington. The report released on December 3 by the US National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), said, they did not "assume that Iran intends to acquire nuclear weapons."

Addressing the 4th congress of Moderation and Development, he commented on reasons for issuing the report, stressing: "My primary speculation is that the report has been issued either by the Democrats or independent groups. The report might have been issued by experts since their investigation has indicated that Iran has not been pursuing nuclear weapons in these years."

"The US president had already been informed of the report and as the Israeli prime minister announced, the report was presented to him during the Annapolis conference by President Bush," Rafsanjani added, according to IRNA.

They knew that if the White House opposed the report, they would face another defeat at international arena, he said, adding that they knew that they had to respond to the public opinion therefore the situation was in a way that the report had to be published.

Referring to the recent report of Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei, he said, "The two reports (NIE and IAEA) changed the situation in a way that the White House was faced with problems in issuing further sanctions against Iran and other issues such as military invasion against the country," Rafsanjani, who is the former Iranian president reiterated.

Despite such reports, the US and its allies have intensified their anti-Iran efforts to show their hatred towards the Iranian nation, he said commenting on recent anti-Iran moves by Washington and certain European states.

I don’t think NIE was using Chomsky’s writing. If anything, I think Chomsky had some NK insider telling him the ‘official story’, the same one that was told to NIE ‘informants’. It’s just strange that NIE was the only one who said so when even most EU countries’ intelligence say otherwise.

The NIE reports are Bush Admin requested reports that came into existence after 9/11.

>>>I think the reason that the Bush Admin declassified the entire report was to put a stop to any second guessing and spinning.<<<

Or perhaps, to make the "spinning and second guessing" of the NIE perfectly obvious!!!

He's probably right...

Chairman of the Experts Assembly Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani

Ah, it's this dude...if I remember right, he's the editor of the magazine whose name I always forget, but it's the mouthpiece for Ali Khamenei. He's a hardliner, to cut to the chase.

Thanks for the link. I need to correct what I said earlier it seems. The NIE reports of discussion have been requested by President Bush but the NIE reports have been around since before President Bush. It’s basically Bush’s report.

Did I get it right?

"My primary speculation is that the report has been issued either by the Democrats or independent groups."

Wait a sec...did Rafsanjani say this?? When was HE president of Iran? I thought they were talking about Khatami. I've listened to Rafsanjani speak and frankly I wouldn't believe a word out of his mouth. So I take back what I said in my earlier post.

Why so many people are ready to vilify our political opponents before our actual enemies I’ll never understand.

The Democrats ARE on our list of actual enemies...foreign AND DOMESTIC.

That being said, however, I don't trust this guy. I watched a show on PBS called "Showdown With Iran" and he was interviewed...he believes 9/11 was a Bush conspiracy and is a supporter of the hardline regime. So I'm not inclined to believe anything he says.

Re: If politics really should stop at the water’s edge, then we at least have to give our Countrymen the benefit of the doubt before we believe an avowed enemy of our nation.

Gadzooks, mngran! Have you heard what... these Democrats you call "our Countrymen" have been saying for the past five or six years?

I stopped giving the Liberal Democrats... the benefit of the doubt when they took the North's side in the Vietnam War. You do recall that one, don't you?

Just checked my sources and this was actually a different guy I'm thinking of who said this, not Rafsanjani. But still, I wouldn't believe him either.

Re: Why so many people are ready to vilify our political opponents before our actual enemies I’ll never understand.

Again, what planet have you been on for the past decade or three? The Liberal Democrats have sided with just about every enemy the United States has since World War Two ended.

Tell me, just who do you and avacado consider our enemies? You two certainly have a strange set of values for posting on a basically Conservative Republican website that considers 'Merde' French for Democrat.

Dude, calm down! All I did was post a fact the the NIE report was declassified by the Bush Admin and not leaked as that Iranian kook was suggesting. You did read the article, right?

NIE's have been around a long time but reads as if they are not called for regularly.

I was not trying to prove you wrong, which I didn't. I was just curious so searched NIC.

Spent some time at the site today and there is even an estimate up to 2015. Funny thing is some one wrote a fake letter from binLaden to a fake grandchild in 2015.

At least a thousand people worked on this 2015 estimate over several years. Can you imagine the cost of such a project?

I am glad you posted that link about the NIE history. I learned a lot from it. What I posted I was recalling from various things I had read.

Glad you did the checking.

An NIE Report for 2015? You have the link for that? It should be a fun/humorous read.

I see I misunderstood and made a boo-boo. My apologies, but I still wonder what planet mngran2 is spending his time on between his comments.

Silly of me, but I kinda go nuts when I see someone defending the Liberal Democrats who have not done any harm to our enemies at all while their actions have helped kill our men and women in uniform since Vietnam and they have kept it up right in to Iraq.

To me, 'Merde' is not near enough French for what I think about those traitors!

An NIE Report for 2015?

http://www.dni.gov/nic/NIC_globaltrend2015.html

President Bush probably did ask for the NIE Report. In time of war it could help, the thing now is, State, CIA and democrats hate Bush and want him to lose regardless the issue. Even the security of our country. JMHO

No problem. And yes I agree 100% with you that the Democrats are treasonous traitors to this country. It’s more than obvious at this point.
