Boycotted Radio Host Remains Unbowed [Savage!!!!!!!!!!]
The New York Times ^ | Dec 17 2007 | Jacques Steinberg

SAN FRANCISCO — The humbling of Don Imus last spring over his remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team has done nothing to quiet Michael Savage, a radio host with a far bigger following and far more checkered track record.

Mr. Savage, whose program reaches an estimated eight million listeners a week on nearly 400 stations, suggested over the summer that a group of college students on a hunger strike in support of easing immigration restrictions should “fast until they starve to death.” In October the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco, the city from which Mr. Savage often broadcasts, took the unusual step of passing a resolution condemning him for the remarks.

Then, a few weeks ago, Mr. Savage uncorked a cascade of invective about Islam. Among his on-air comments: the Koran is “a book of hate”; some Muslims, at least, “need deportation”; and adherents of Islam would do well to “take your religion and shove it up your behind” because “I’m sick of you.”

In response the Council on American-Islamic Relations, whose stated mission includes correcting mischaracterizations of Islam, tore a page from the playbook of Mr. Imus’s critics. It made Mr. Savage’s comments widely available on the Internet and called on advertisers to boycott his program, which is behind only Rush Limbaugh’s and Sean Hannity’s in number of listeners, according to Talkers magazine, an industry publication.

At least two of his major sponsors — Citrix, which sells remote access to computers, and Trusted ID, which provides protection against identity theft — have pulled their spots. Thus far, Mr. Savage said in an interview last week, the boycott had cost his program more than a million dollars in advertising revenue committed for next year.

I rarely listen to him, do not agree with all he says, but he damn well has freedom of speech just like anyone else. And those two advertisers are cowards.

I have already contacted them to let them know that no matter what they do in the future, I will never, EVER use their products!

We need to find out hte ames of any sponsors who may be withdrawing, boycott them, and tell them why.

Tells you right in the story that Citrix (makers of Go To My PC) and Trusted ID have pulled their ads.

Same here. I don’t care for him at all, but I support his right to say what he says.

Whether or not you agree with his style, he cuts to the heart of many issues before other commentators know what is happening.

I find his "style" almost intolerable, but I sure support him against the CAIR thugs.

Savvy marketers would seek to jump on the Savage bandwagon. His 8 million listeners are loyal, they work and consume. CAIR is a terror front group. How many terrorist sympathizers are there in the USA? Not eight million, I’d bet. That said, Savage had best be careful. In the Netherlands and elsewhere, commentators who have criticized militant Islam have been murdered in horrible ways.

Savage is too much for me but I thought someone on a hunger strike is supposed to fast till they die or get their way so what he said is O:K with me. I guess the NYT is letting us know that a hunger strike is a JOKE. Hey look at me I am a silly lefty and I am going to sit here and not eat till I die or you do as I SAY. WHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA!!!

Any company whose sole products are made from pork would be a great sponsor. Muslims aren’t going to patronize them anyway.

Thank-you. I will be sure to contact them and let them know I won’t be buying anything from them soon. Citrix has a new competitor coming out.

At least two of his major sponsors — Citrix, which sells remote access to computers

Our company has and has placed clients with over 5,000 licenses to GoToMyPC by Citrix. Nearly half of those expire Dec 31. We will not be renewing a single one of those seats come Jan 1st. I am paying out of my own pocket to rewrite scripts used with GTMPC, for use with the new software we will be implementing. I will be notifying the company this week of this fact.

TrustedID is a waste of time to protest. Their co-founder is an Arab, and coincidentally he has the exact same name as a CAIR regional director who was sentenced to 15 years in a Federal case last year.

Gee, I’m a vegetarian and hard liquor, fast manly cars and big trucks don’t upset me. The narrow minded stereotyping by some of our less tolerant brothers (and sisters) here at Free Republic is another matter. I have pledged to offer all the pork I have done without for over 30 years to the needy Muslims which CAIR represents.

How can 6000 cair members boycott a show with millions of listeners? These advertisers are gutless.

We have been testing VNC as a source for remote access for our clients, especially since quite a few of them now use some flavor of linux.

The newer versions seem to work flawlessly with the windows environment, from this point on we will be installing VNC and when the current crop of licences for GTMPC expire, they will be replaced with VNC.

There is now way in hell I would recommend or install any software whos company supports or buckles under to Terrorist organizations like CAIR.
