Bloomie and Arnie, Centrist Twins (for Prez and Veep?)
New York Magazine ^ | Dec 17, 2007 | Geoffrey Gray

Only the Constitution can keep them apart

Mayor Bloomberg’s political guru, Kevin Sheekey, continues his quest to get his boss in a position to run for president.

According to a well-placed source, Sheekey’s latest project is to figure out if they could get California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a potential running mate. This summer, Bloomie and Arnie shared a few centrist photo ops.

The East Coast–West Coast alliance would have its advantages in the Electoral College, certainly. But other parts of the Constitution are more problematic, like where it mentions that only a “natural-born Citizen … shall be eligible for the Office of President.” It doesn’t mention the veep, though.

The source says Bloomberg has lawyers studying things like “succession plans” to see how it would work: If something happens, say, to President Bloomberg, does that mean Vice-President Schwarzenegger is overlooked and the Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) gets to take over?

A spokesman for Bloomberg declined to comment.

At least I was right in the fact that the original language left it open and needed to be addressed. Glad they got around to doing that in 1804. haha!

The last sentence of the 12th Amendment was necessary, because that amendment allowed the Vice President to be elected separately (technically at least) from the President. The original Electoral College (Article II, Section 1, Clause 3) had the Vice President be the Presidential candidate that finished second, so there was no need to have VP qualifications.

Hopefully Mayor Mike and the Govenator read this post. Once again, the Constitution serves as an inconvenience to Liberals.

Well, not quite. Before the 12th Amendment, the VP was just the guy who ran for president and finished second. So before the 12th amendment, you couldn't become vice president unless you could run for president.

Centrist photo ops??? Neither of those two are centrists by any convoluted definition of the term. Bloomie is about as liberal as anyone this side of a card carrying communist can be, and Ahhnold isn't exactly a reincarnation of Barry Goldwater. God forbid that either one ever gets within a country mile of the White House or Congress.

Sure you can. You can always run for a seat without meeting the qualifications . . . as long as no one sues to have you removed from the ballot.

Well, by that reasoning, Arnie could run for president now. The point is that he would have been just as unqualified to be VP before the 12th Amendment as he is now.

Even without a lawsuit, you need Congress to count the electoral votes when it convenes to do so. They have excluded votes cast for ineligible people before (like three electoral votes cast for the deceased Horace Greeley in 1872).

The Congress (the body that counts the Electoral Votes) would vote that the Electoral Votes for Arnie to be VP are void as Unconstitutional. That wouldn't affect any Electoral Votes for Mayor Mike.

If Bloomie runs, it will be 1992 all over again.

No way. Only Liberals would vote for Mayor Mike. He would take votes from the (D) candidate, not the (R) candidate.

Repeated polls show him taking votes from the R candidate and giving the election to Hillary. Check Ras Reports.

Yeah, Arnie is doing a “great” job out here in CA. In no small part thanks to him and the Democratic controlled legislature, we’re running a 14B dollar deficit!

Hey but I voted for Tom McClintock...if only he was the governor now.

If foreigner Arnold were eligible to run, they could carry California and New York. That’s all. Bloomberg is no centrist. On abortion, he is a particularly bloodthirsty zealot who favors government subsidized killing of the innocent unborn for any reason or no reason through all nine months of pregnancy. He favors partial birth abortion and has compelled interns in city hospitals to participate in abortions—no conscience clause allowed. He favors homosexual marriage. He has continued Guiliani’s policy of making NY a sanctuary city in which the police and other municipal authorities are actually forbidden from cooperating with federal immigration agents. Only the left-wing MSM could consider this despicable runt a centrist.

Bloomberg opposes the death penalty. Support for the death penalty is a prerequisite for being considered a centrist.

I’m a “centrist”, I’m slap in the middle, where The Constitution is! Not one of these dipshits has a clue, about the underlying principles of this republic. The truth just doesn’t shift around, it just sits there, like it, or not!
