Cal Thomas: Gore's cult of global alarmism
Tribune Media Services via SacBee ^ | 12/29/7 | Cal Thomas

You don't have to be religious to qualify as a fundamentalist. You can be Al Gore, the messiah figure for the global warming cult, whose followers truly believe their gospel of imminent extermination in a Noah-like flood, if we don't immediately change our carbon polluting ways.

One of the traits of a cult is its refusal to consider any evidence that might disprove the faith. And so it is doubtful the global warming cultists will be moved by 400 scientists, many of whom, according to the Washington Times, "are current or former members of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Mr. Gore for publicizing a climate crisis." In a report by Republican staff of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, these scientists cast doubt on a "scientific consensus" that global warming caused by humans endangers the planet.

Like most cultists, the true believers struck back, not by debating science, but by charging that a small number of the scientists mentioned in the report have taken money from the petroleum industry.

A spokeswoman for Gore said 25 or 30 of the scientists may have received funding from Exxon Mobile Corp. Exxon Mobile spokesman Gantt H. Walton dismissed the accusation, saying, "the company is concerned about climate-change issues and does not pay scientists to bash global-warming theories." The pro-global warming cultists enjoy a huge money advantage.

Gore gets sOOOO angry when he is challenged about his religion of global warming- and it’s very funny to watch. You can’t blame him, really. It IS the only job available for someone who is, arguably, the STUPIDEST man on the planet...

Too bad they don’t offer “awards” for THAT.

Global Warming Hysteria has indeed taken on all the aspects of religion, right down to kosher “green” products.

This author suggests a debate between Gore and some scientist on the anti-warming side.

If I never see Gore in another debate, it’ll be too soon.

Can you imagine him “hulking” over behind the other speaker, rolling those google eyes at him?

And he shouts out, “We’ll put it in a lockbox! A global warming lockbox....and none of that CO2 will get out; not on my watch...”

Here’s some other stuff getting funded:

A project that is working toward these goals is now underway at Stanford University with the support of a group of global companies (including ExxonMobil, GE, Schlumberger, and Toyota). With initial funding of $225 million, the Global Climate and Energy Project (GCEP) will unleash the creativity of faculty and students at Stanford and other universities and research institutions worldwide. With a sustained effort in this project and many others, we can begin now to create a path toward an energy future that is feasible and practical, applicable to both the developed and the developing world, with much lower greenhouse emissions.

Could it be? Al Gore, the next Jim Jones. I think it likely.

Not enough charisma.

One of the traits of a cult is its refusal to consider any evidence that might disprove the faith

That's ONE trait, alright -- more symptomatic than causal. Another trait, a more seminal one, is the regard of the leading exponent of the new faith as a prophet:
"After Gore remarked that American public opinion is shifting, Harry Smith (CBS) turned to Richard Branson and, seemingly attempting to elevate Al Gore to sainthood, inquired: "You have only known each other about a year or so as I understand it. Is Al Gore a prophet."
Branson expressed his admiration for Gore and asserted that outside the United States "he is perceived as a prophet, spelled in the right way..."

(from United Church of Christ [uber-liberal] blog: "Monday, December 10, 2007 Prophet Gore Says We Must Act With Haste "

It is a cult, alright. Cults always have a guy or a committee of elitists who interpret scripture or other realities for the masses. When the committee has spoken, the thinking has been done. Check your brain at the door. The debate is over. Sound familiar?

Gore: Everyone Who Opposes Me Is Corrupt [semi-satire]

The U.S. Senate report indicating that over 400 scientists have “voiced significant objections to major aspects of the so-called ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming” was dismissed by Nobel Laureate Al Gore as “unworthy of consideration.”

“Man-made global warming is settled science,” Gore asserted. “Anyone who contests this fact cannot really be called a scientist. They’re no better than those who appeased Hitler.”

Gore charged that these “so-called scientists have likely been tainted or corrupted by corporate cash from the petroleum industry. They are putting their own financial advantage ahead of their responsibility to Mother
Nature. Contempt shall be their wages for such apostasy.”

The former vice-president rejected suggestions that his own financial gains—rumored to total over $100 million—from touting global warming might “taint” his credibility. “When you are doing God’s work you can expect to be rewarded,” Gore said. “The abundance of that reward is but further evidence of the truth of my cause.”

Al Gore is running for the head of the “Chicken Little Crowd”. He thinks he can be King of the Universe that way.
