Over all it was a better year for the C word as Target made a big comeback with huge "Merry Christmas" signs. Wal Mart renamed its decorations department the "Christmas Shop" and even Best Buy dropped the holiday talk and went with the trifecta of Happy Kwanzaa/Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah signage. Lowes had some more "printing errors" (seems like this is always the excuse when they get busted) and were quick to make corrections and apologize...again.
One thing that was nice to see was at Home Depot. While Walmart and other stores sold Merry Christmas gift cards, Home Depot had a beautiful nativity scene on some of its gift cards. Sick, crass, commercialization?...to some...to me it was just nice to see that the reason for the season is being remembered.

The retailers have dropped “Christmas.”
And Christians have begun to drop the retailers.

Short of Walmart, I avoid all stores. Especially on the 26th.

People should take pictures of the After Christmas ads and placards in the stores and then next year, ask the same retailers why their pre-Christmas ads don’t mention Christmas.

It was heart warming to see the Salvation Army and their Red Kettles back again at Wally World this year.
Perhaps Target will realize the error of their ways.

Over 80% of the buying public in this nation consider themselves ‘Christian’s’.
Hence, the business decision to address that largest of all possible markets.
Simple business practice.

Let’s face it, for the vast majority of retailers the reason for the season is one thing — cash. Whatever they think will sell more product is what they’ll do.

Were they written in English or in Spanish?

One day I was out running errands before CHristmas.
I was very pleased to be LOUDLY told, “Merry CHristmas” by various store personnel. THere must have been quite a lot of backlash from the last 2 years of political “Happy Holidays” crap.

Why do you keep expecting these sick, crass commercial institutions to recognize something other than the sick, crass and commercial? The goal of a business is to make money, not cater to your personal beliefs. Even if by some stretch of the imagination they DID recognize and use the word "Christmas" in advertising and sales, you can bet the motivation would be far less than satisfactory to you, or it would be gone the next season because trends have directed them elsewhere.
Here's a suggestion. Stop buying stuff for "Holiday" and celebrate Christmas for what it is. No commercial justification for your beliefs is required.

I've been going out of my way to avoid retailers that can't bother to call the "holiday" by it's right name--Christmas.
As a result, Barnes & Noble got none of my Christmas shopping this year.

No Christmas = NO SALE
literally. These retailers are marketing idiots. BEYOND idiots.
They could have tied the gift giving to the three wise men, Christmas joy. Instead they have gone sooooo over the top commerically that they have no way to justify the gifts. It is hard NOT to give a christmas gift. It is super duper easy not to give a generic-whatever-holiday gift.
Holiday is about “like”
Christmas is about “love”
People do not move mountains because they are “in like”.

I live and work in downtown Seattle and it's about a mile and a half walk to work.
Walking from home to work takes me through the retail core of the city.....past Nordstrom, Gap, Banana Republic and Macys, etc.
Nowhere between home and work was the work "Christmas" visible. Nowhere.

Nice to see the 'C' word still in use now and then across the pond.
I've often seen England accused of being virtually run by Muslims on this forum. Yet in my local high street, there's a huge Christmas tree and lots of 'Merry Christmas' signs. And under the tree: a Nativity scene. All put there by local government (ie the Town Council).

One thing that was nice to see was at Home Depot. It should be noted that Home Depot was founded by some smart Jews in Atlanta....and they know who brought them to the dance obviously....God bless em.
