I'm watching the news last night - Special Report w/Brit Hume - except Brit's on vacation. I forget the name of the guy hosting for him but the panel includes Fred Barnes, Mort Konracke, and Charles Krauthammer. They are disussing the latest Fox Opinion poll and it shows McCain surging. It makes me think - who are these Republicans who think McCain is okay? In the past 8 years he has voted against President Bush's tax cuts, started the gang of 14 that circumvented the Republicans getting conservative judges to the bench, and basically wanted to hand out amnesty to illegals. After 8 years, are there actually Republicans who cannot see this John McCain?
Another thing I noticed watching television yesterday. One item of discussion was Rush Limbaugh's remarks from last week concerning the Huckster. I remember listening to Rush last week and hearing his comments. However, Rush also made important comments concerning Bill Clinton and his being out on the campgain trail for Hillary. No mention of that from any of the news sources. Don't you just love it when the media - FNC included - cherry-picks their news?
.
It is unbelievable that Teddie is elected Senator for like, and when this disgusting specimen of a human being dies, they will erect statues in his honor.
So, I suppose McCain may also have his followers, as well.
For the life of me I cant understand what is going on with the GOP! These polls are driving me nuts! One thing for certain it’s better to have the beast as prez over the RINOs.....at least in 2010 the GOP can get real and stop her as they did in 94. A RINO would just dilute the party and conservatives would have a two front battle.
What did Rush say?
My brother likes him. Says he has "paid his dues". He has, but that's not good enough for me.
(Note: Of the four McCain is the only one I'd trust to be commander-in-chief)
The inside the beltway gang is hyping McCain and that scares me.
Is there a McCain Mutiny afoot with conservatives being divided into Romney-Thompson camps so McLiberal can come through the gap and win?
I want to nip his butt early so I’d vote for Romney just to do that, even Huck.
Then we can go down south and try to fix this up.
Rush’s fill in yesterday said most voters have already picked a candidate and find it hard to change their minds at such a late date. One reason why MSM is saying this race is tossup for both parties.
That's sure what they want you to think. However, the Congress elected in '94 was stopped by the Clintons if you recall. It's hard to argue that the Congress that was in power when Bush was elected was the same Congress of '94.
Was Nixon a Rockefeller Republican? Was Ford?
I think Goldwater was - and he was last of a breed.
The big question for me is national security. Where did that go as a campaign issue? No serious Huckabee supporter can have national security on the top of his issues list.
I have not forgotten we are fighting World War IV. We need a President that can kick the terrorists’ butts.
Three realistic candidates come to mind: McCain, Guiliani, and Thompson. Romney would have to check with his lawyers first.
I’m not especially a Mccain fan but for the sake of keeping things honest, here are Mccain’s rankings from the American Conservative Union. They aren’t shabby.
McCAIN 2006-65 ..2005-80 ..Lifetime-82.3

I’d also note Mccain didn’t stop Bush from getting his judges. That was at a total impasse before Mccain and others acted to prevent the republicans from stupidly jumping off a cliff without a parachute by using the nuke option. Only after that did Bush nominees begin to again pass the senate. No Gang of 14, no Roberts and Alito.
Had the nuke option passed, the dems today would have nothing to prevent them from doing as they wished. The last year would have been very different.
As for FNC, why are you angry they aren’t giving Bill Clinton more publicity? Isn’t that essentially a DU complaint?
If you want something legitimate to worry about with Mccain, he’s too darn old in a youth oriented culture. Standing next to Hillary he’d make even her look young and energetic.
As I look back on the Gang of 14 incident I have come to the same conclusion as you.
bump
McCain complained about policy in Iraq and “torture” of terror suspects.
He pushed the censorship of conservatives with McCain-Feingold and amnesty for illegals with Ted Kennedy.
He’s just another conservative.....NOT candidate.
I think your assessment concerning fighting the war is correct. Besides being the worst possible Republican candidate on social and fiscal issues, Romney also gave the most ludicrous answer on how to handle Iran. I believe he has no concept of the correct application of military power to achieve military and political goals.
