Looks like Huckabee is digging a deep hole in Iowa. First a new ARG poll is showing Romney has regained a decent lead of 9 points over Huckabee over the past few days. (Romney 32, Huckabee 23)

ARG is a crappy polling firm, but the trendline is really not favorable to Huckabee. It appears Romney really has the momentum over the past one or two weeks. Huckabee's numberous gaffes have finally caught up with him. This thing takes time, and it will have a big impact.
More importantly, here's what Huckabee's campaign manager Ed Rollins told Washington Post yesterday.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/28/AR2007122802971
A top Huckabee adviser fretted openly about the possible impact of a weekend of unanswered negative ads... "We don't see an erosion yet," Ed Rollins, a veteran GOP strategist who recently joined Huckabee's campaign, said in a telephone interview. "But you hope over the course of the next few days they don't start eroding our base. ... but Rollins said the campaign had not anticipated that Romney would unleash a new attack on Friday. He added that Huckabee is determined to remain on a positive track but warned that the campaign will reevaluate that position on Monday.
I just heard on CNN that Huckabee campaign has decided THEY ARE GOING TO LAUNCH COUNTER-ATTACK ADS ON MONDAY. Huckabee is also starting to aggressively mention Romney's name in today's stops and press conferences in Iowa. So basically Huckabee campaign is telling us if they do not see any bleeding, there will be no counter-attack ads; now they're going to launch such ads, what conclusion can you draw? THEIR INTERNALS must tell them they're bleeding badly. The million dollar question is whether his base will erode to an extent that Romney can overtake him in the end.
The more Huck attacks Romney, the better it is for Romney. Everyone in Iowa talking about Romney is a good thing for Romney.
I agree that the combination of negative media, Fred Thompson attacking, Mitt Romney’s adds, Pakistani mis-steps and other negatives are adding up to erosion for Mike. He has to convince voters that he is not the criminal and illegal immigrant lover, as well as foreign policy amateur he has been portrayed as the past few weeks. His inability to really define himself beyond a Christian has allowed others to define him.
It looks like Iowa GOPers are going to make up their mind at the last possible second and one candidate will collect the bulk of those votes.
I am hoping those voters break late for FDT, but I worry that the Bhutto assasination will highlight national security and cause a late break for McLunatic.
If Fred can finish a strong third, and Romney wins Iowa, Huckabee will be out for the duration of the game and then it comes down to a Fred vs Romney battle for South Carolina.
ARG!!!
Looks like a Huck-a-bust, to me...the infowarrior

Looks like the Lord has really loosen Huckabee tongue...
Or as man also would say give a horse enought rope and he will hang himself!
Huckabee will still beat Romeny. This is the type of stuff that we posted on Free Republic prior to the 2006 slaughter the Republicans took in the congressional elections. We would find some crazy poll or wish for some trend and even Sean Hannity was talking upbeat that we may even keep both houses. But in the end it was just what it was.
The good thing for mywife and I is that we actually already voted for Huckabee with our absentee ballots in Michigan. Huckabee is a principaled man with only a couple flaws (I hope he is a little more hawkish on immigration). Unlike Flip Romney and Feingold McCainnedy (Feingold/ Kennedy) and super lib Guiliani.
While all of the other GOP candidates are beating themselves silly with attack ads that are turning off voters, the real elephant in the room is Dr. Paul.
If he places 3rd or higher, you can kiss the other candidates goodbye.
Huckabee, McCain, and Thompson are going broke and may not make it to Super Duper Tuesday.
Go Mitt!
Oh, and welcome to FR. Takes some stones to post a vanity on your first day; if you are really new and not a retread...
Stop saying that. What type of absentee ballots are you writing about? Are you some sort of representative of the Republican party to Iowa?
Not real thrilled with your choice if that's the case and feel cheated as a Michigander. Huckabee is slicker than Willy and goofier than Jimmy.
My opinion is that I hope Mitt and the Huckster chew each other up like Wrigley spearmint gum.
I am rooting for them to utterly destroy each other.
Like being clueless on foreign policy and wanting to throw open the borders and turn America into Mexico Norte?
Huckabee is certainly likeable enough, but he's in way over his head.
The place is crawling with names I never saw before.
The more that Iowans and others hear of Romney’s record, the less he will be liked.
He has been accommodating on abortion and gays in the military among other things.
Romney is a liberal with a nice haircut and a nice looking family.
His mailings attacking Huckabee have been dishonest also. One I received today is a gross distortion on Huckabee’s record.
McCain may finish in 3rd place, but he has no chance to catch up with Huck & Romney.
The Huckster has been exposed. Mostly, he offers his piety. For some, that’s enough. But for many more, it’s not.

They have the frequency, Kenneth.
