Question ... was the gunman killed when the bomb went off ... or did he get away?
I haven't seen anywhere on whether that's been reported or not
Well, I think what they should do, as a matter of national security, is to do a professional autopsy (no matter what the family says) and get the absolute cause of death. Then it won’t depend upon all these conflicting accounts that we are still getting now.
I don’t think the government should come out and “correct” what they’ve said (even if they’ve found additional conflicting accounts) until they’ve done that kind of autopsy.
Otherwise, if they do start correcting themselves, they just start looking worse and worse, going back and forth, between various different scenarios. That’s no way to instill any kind of confidence in the government’s statements.
So, my opinion (for what they should do) is to say nothing more about the cause of death, make an autopsy a matter of national security, and get the conclusive results from that and publish it.

Why would the government try to hide the fact that the gunman killed her, rather than the bomb? According to the video, the car was “bomb-proof,” but a bomb-proof car is of no use when your head is sticking out through the roof.
You said — “More inanity.”
Well, you presented the opportunity so well on two different occasions, I had to “take off” with it... LOL!

I don’t know you can’t see anything and you can doctor tapes with sound effects and splice the events to your scenario!
Its part of the cult.
There were probably more attempts in the ready out there in that crowd than anyone knows.
She knew that inorder to really come to power, she would have to campaign and get close to the people and for that to happen, her exposure to this probability was going to be inevitable at some point over there.
just for the record, elements of AQ that the Paki govt is trying to pin this on (a guy named Meshud) have actually dentied any involvement. So while AQ may have initally come out and claimed responsibility, they have since backed off.
it doesn’t appear anyone is going to change your mind that AQ did this. However, I think it is clear that there is a perception (particularly among the PPP in Pakistan) that Musharaff is at least complicit in the assassination.
If Musharaff, the military or ISI are even thought to have had anything to do with this, it could bring down his govt, which is the real issue here anyhow. It doesn’t matter who actually pulled the trigger; what does matter is does this bring down Musharaff and cause futher unrest, is there an organized transfer of power or chaos, thus calling into question the security of the nuke aresenal.

Thanks for the chronology. Agree with your point on arrogance and if she was going to insist on acting like this I am not sure any security force in the world could really have protected her. As close as that crowd was pressed around that car and given the size of it, it doesn’t seem like anyone could have reacted quickly enough to prevent something like this from happening.
The refusal to let Blackwater or their equivalents at least try to protect her though, if substantiated, certainly is another thing making the government look bad.
