Thanks for mentioning the two Huckabee poll questions below the kissing lesbian photo LOL!! The Huckster isn’t doing well in either poll question so far. Good.

It isn’t just the lefties, most Conservatives I know support civil unions of some sort over changing marriage because with a union contract, it shouldn’t be the government’s business what sex or sexual orientation someone is. It keeps this issue separate from changing the definition of marriage.

Civil union isn't marriage. It is a contract entered into freely by of-age adults and as such is none of my business.
I can't think of any reason why adults shouldn't be able to freely make such a contract. Some so-called conservatives would surrender the freedom to contract for a legal matter in the name of some notion of morality that no one is legally required to observe.
One doesn't have to like the free choices of others to be willing to protect the right of such choices.

“Civil union isn’t marriage. It is a contract entered into freely by of-age adults and as such is none of my business.”
It is a foot in the door and by giving into this immoral “contract,” they will keep working to open the door all the way and soon the definition of marriage being between one man and one woman will go down the drain. IMO it is everyone’s business who is interested in the cultural decline in which this sexuality force is taking us. They are powerful!!

The production and sale of alcohol leads to immorality. Do you oppose it as forcefully as you do civil union or do you make an exception for this activity?
What about the production and use of tobacco or fatty foods?
At what point do you decide that the free, legal, non-violent acts of adults don't need your agreement to be the protected right of contract?

Actually, anybody can enter sort of a “contract” that achieves the same thing.
Just give each other power of attorney.

Exactly, the right of contract, not its precise form, is what's important here. The use of a civil union could arguably be the sop that prevents the assault on marriage.
I am unaware of any state that has legalized civil union where gay marriage has been legalized.

A “civil contract” law will never satisfy the activists. They want to basically be able to old everybody down, kicking and screaming, and FORCE them to say that they are “married” in the eyes of God and Man.
Anything else will never be enough for them, mark my words!
So I don’t really give a hoot about what they do or where they do it - but they are struggling to force me to believe something I WILL NEVER BELIEVE!
So this is a power play. Little else.

Please point to a jurisdiction with civil union where the activists have been successful in forcing gay marriage. Thank you.
If you can't, your premise is seriously weakened.

Just because it hasn’t happened yet, that doesn’t mean it won’t. And I’m not certain that it hasn’t.
You’re an adult. You know what “incrementalism” means.
