Huckabee pulls new TV ad slamming Romney but plays it for the press corps
Boston Herald ^ | December 31, 2007 (Last year! Wow!) | Jessica Van Sack

Mike Huckabee, vowing to commit to positive campaigning, announced he would not air a new attack ad slamming Mitt Romney for going negative but then promptly showed the TV ad anyway at a press conference - prompting loud cackles from the press corps.

Huckabee said he had a change of heart just before the press conference and shortly before the ad’s first scheduled airing at noon today in Iowa.

“This morning I ordered our staff to pull the ad. I told them I do not want it to be run,” the former Arkansas governor said. “If it is run at all it will only be until the stations can get it off the air and we are now committed from now to the rest of the caucus that we will run only the ads that talk about why I should be president and not why Mitt Romney should not.”

Does “working with the media” mean being liberal on illegal immigration and taxes? Or does it mean saying enough is enough on negative ads 1 week then making a negative ad, then having a “change of heart” a few hours before the press conference?

HEADLINE: "Crazed Romney supporter, member of Navoo Legion, attacks presidential candidate Mike Huckabee over ads against Romney. Threatens to behead Huckabee Iraqi style."

Working the media would be doing things that force the media to cover you whether its positive or negative. The pheasant hunting is a perfect example of this. I don't believe all of the controversies were intentionally created by huckabee but he clearly is able to generate coverage of himself.

Thompson and Hunter seem to lack this ability and it doesn't help them.

It’s not what I would’ve done, but I still support Huckabee.

You claimed Romney was more liberal than Huckabee.

That’s a lie.

It’s called “pulling a hucklebee”.

Actually I was just joking, but Hucks personality has begun to wear thin, as it seems disingenuous. It is as though he is most impressed with his slick mouth.

It's almost like a vulgar tone IMO. His remarks today about his bringing in the "Ressurection" I found offensive.

It looks like Huck planned to run/pull this attack ad several days ago. Meaning his "change of heart" is a lie!

Yeah, and on H&C tonight he called Romney the one being untruthful. Just like the Clintons and Democrats do: Accuse your opponent of things you, yourself, are guilty of.

Is there video of the ad?

Carl Cameron tonght on H&C said he aquired the video and put it on the Fox news website. Dick Morris then came on to say Huckster favored taxpayer funding of abortions in MA.

Huckabee's Pulled Ad

This appears to be a video camera from the press conference, where Huckabee showed the ad to press.

Gosh, I hope Huck sinks Flip Romney in Iowa. It would be so sweet to watch Iowa slip out of Flip's hands after the tens of millions of dollars he's poured into the state in an attempt to buy votes.

And then, if McCain could beat him in NH--might knock Flip out of the race all together.

I don't particularly like Huck, but I'd vote for him every time over a total fraud like Romney.

That is exactly how I feel. I want the Mitt distractor taken out now before he can do real harm.

The guy’s a liberal, like it or not. He’s trying to appear more conservative now, but he sure wasn’t conservative when he was governor of Ark. And that’s his track record.

I fixed it for you.
