He was always in attendance at things like the dedication of a new star on the walk-of-fame.

RIP

Sorry to hear it. He was very good for Hollywood and the entertainment community.
Seemed to be a nice guy and I admire never hearing and politics out of him in print or before camera (at least to my knowledge).

Thanks for including his bio and Thanks to Johnny Grant for his military service and his many years of serving the USO. He will be missed. Here's a cool picture of him when he was working at 710 KMPC in Los Angeles Angels uniforms with some of his fellow broadcasters (Johnny is in the middle/back).

No way. Another legend is gone.
He was a wonderful, enthusiastic mayor for Hollywood.
I wonder who will take his place?

His life reads like an inspirational poem - how on earth could one man do so much for so many? Boy Scouts, USO, Veterans, the addicted, the downtrodden, the aspiring...

Thank God for men like Johnny Grant!

A good friend of mine, Tom Shelley, invited my wife and I to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Star dedication for the Watson brothers, long time entertainment and photographic production people whose family had been in that line of work since the early 1900s.

My parents had been neighbors of Harry Watson. Tom didn’t know this, but Harry and family were glad to see my folks.

After the star dedication, I approached Johnny Grant and he agreed to have his picture taken with my parents.

I’m sorry to see the guy go. He was an institution. He will be missed.

Mr Mayor was a great friend of our troops in assisting the USO put together tours as well as the famous Hollywood Canteen in WW2.

A great loss for show biz and our military.
