Despite a disappointing finish, Thompson doesn't bow out
Chicago Tribune ^ | January 21, 2008 | William Douglas

"...As soon as Thompson entered the race, analysts began wondering aloud why he got in, saying that he didn't show the fire in the belly that's necessary to run successfully for president. The image of Thompson as a laid-back slowpoke became fodder for late-night television comedians.

Woodard said that Thompson finally appeared to hit his stride on the stump in the Palmetto State, speaking to overflow crowds in the past week.

"Here's what happens when you're a candidate -- you get better as you go along," he said. "The problem is Huckabee's got a three-month jump on him. Fred is a good, tough candidate. If he was like this in September, things might be different."

I'd like to optimistic, but I am not.

You need to listen to Limbaugh today to get a healthy dose of Rush Rays to set your mind right. Things are actually looking GOOD for conservatives now!

Your Rx is also a strong dose of Rush Rays from his show later today. When listening, be sure to lay your head near the radio to get the full dosage in order to get your mind right.

“You know what we Chicago South Siders consider as the best thing about the North Side? (drumroll)...The ride back.”

That’s pretty good. It’s like some of us Texans say about Oklahoma. “You know what I like about Oklahoma........Nothing”
For any of you OK fans out there this is just a joke. No flaming required.LOL

Not if McCain is given as our candidate.

Wow! You're a hard case. Maybe terminal. For you I suggest you actually place your head square against the radio later today to make sure your dosage of Rush Rays is extra strong.

And to all dispirited conservatives, be sure to get your dosage of Rush Rays later today. He will set your minds right and put them at ease.

That is why you need to listen to Rush. McCain WON’T be the nominee. Be sure to turn the radio volume on high to get the full dosage of Rush Rays later today.

IOW, anybody else will lose in November, no matter whom the Dems nominate.

I can respect your support of Thompson, but language like this is a bit over the top.

Especially when you consider that every national poll shows that McCain is the only one that would beat the Dems (in a theoretical match up).

He isn’t the Lord. What he is to True Conservatives, is the last one representing our interests.

The Republican establishment seems to think you can build a house without a foundation/base. Good luck to them.

I'll try PJ.

I kept waiting for the Conservative voters to show up in force. They haven't so far.

I can't believe that McAmnesty and Gomer Huckster are our front runners.

Bizzaro.

I’ve had it with the Republican Party, the leadership has sold out to socialist interests. They called for money over the weekend and I told them to go pound salt, also told them it would be the same as giving money to the democrats.

Remember, turn the volume up loud and place your head near the radio for the full dosage of Rush Rays. Take the cure today and feel better tomorrow.

Especially when you consider that every national poll shows that McCain is the only one that would beat the Dems (in a theoretical match up). Polls taken now mean little.

Look how many polls concerning the primaries have been wrong. Most have been fairly accurate, but enough have been wrong to make them suspect.

As a Republican nominee emerges and as more becomes known about Hillary, I think those polls will change.

Yes, McCain does look more electable, but I think that any strong Republican can beat her...

... especially FRED!

(if he can win!)

Volume up all the way with head firmly against the radio. Repeat daily until the Rush Ray Therapy works its magic in removing that angst tumor in your mind.

Don’t bother. Rush has sold us out too.

He had opportunity to boost Hunter and Thompson when it mattered, and he didn’t. Now we’ll be stuck with a RINO, if Fred doesn’t pull a miracle out of his rear end in FL.

If Rush helps Thompson any, I’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

Oh puh_leeeze. Fred just is the only candidate who represents the principles that conservatives believe.

Well, he had better win a primary if he expects to be taken seriously!

First Thompson is the ‘only’ Reagan.

I agree...yet his energy level and maybe an occasional smile will boost his support.

The things that I loved about Reagan were his smile, his overwhelming love of his country, his constant pronouncement that anything good is possible in the United States, his firmness in dealing with adversaries....and his, cocked head in response to stupid media questions, "well......there you go again"....

"What happened to Thompson? One word: Huckabee," said Clemson University political science professor Dave Woodard. "He stole all his (Thompson's) votes. As Huckabee began to rise, he got more money, more mailings, and the values voters who were going to Fred switched allegiances to Huckabee."
I'm sorry to say it, but what does that show about the intelligence of the "values voters"? It's not very flattering, that's for sure.

In one short span of a few months they have greatly legitimized the media stereotype of conservative Christians as witless ignorant boobs.

I'm sorry, if you look at Mike Huckabee and think that he would be good for America, good for conservatives, good for the fight against socialism and all the evils of socialism then, I'm sorry, you are a witless ignorant boob.

Great going, people. You've set the cause of conservatism back a couple of decades.
