I spoke to one of my Thompson sources.
He's still with his ailing mother. "He's just being a good son."
He has not spoken to any other campaign or any other candidates, nor does he intend to at this time.
He will not endorse, I am told by this source close to Thompson.
I am also told, "he has no interest in a vice presidency or a cabinet position." At an "appropriate time" he will outline his plans for the near future.
This source believes that the race has demonstrated that whatever happens from here on out, the GOP has to stand for consistent conservative policies across the board.
At one point, I asked this source if the attitude was, 'if you can't be Reagan, be Goldwater,' and the source responded, "exactly."
If I were a betting man, I would bet on him departing the race in the not-too-distant future.
Here is some more info on the man you choose to call a “turd”. Everyone please note what the “turd” did by making sure to read the last paragraph:
Romney left Bain Capital when he took over the leadership role for the 2002 Olympics (more from Wiki):
Romney served as president and CEO of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games held in Salt Lake City. In 1999, the event was running $379 million short of its revenue benchmarks. Plans were being made to scale back the games in order to compensate for the fiscal crisis.[18] The Games were also damaged by allegations of bribery involving top officials, including then Salt Lake Olympic Committee (SLOC) President and CEO Frank Joklik. Joklik and SLOC vice president Dave Johnson were forced to resign.[19]
On February 11, 1999, Romney was hired as the new president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.[20] Romney revamped the organizations leadership and policies, reduced budgets and boosted fundraising. He also worked to ensure the safety of the Games following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 by coordinating a $300 million security budget.[21] Despite the initial fiscal shortfall, the Games ended up clearing a profit of $100 million, not counting the $224.5 million in security costs contributed by outside sources.[22][23]
Romney contributed $1 million to the Olympics, and donated the $825,000 salary he earned as President and CEO to charity.[24] He wrote a book about his experience titled Turnaround: Crisis, Leadership, and the Olympic Games.[25]
In other words when you’re facing a heavy pass rush one needs to adjust and run some draws and screens. :-)
So what? Ron Paul has made that offer, as well. You gonna’ vote for him?
First, has it been confirmed Fred isn’t participating in the debate? And no, I don’t regard Carl Cameron or FoxNews as realiable in and of themselves. Confirmation is needed from every aspect of the driveby media and their paid tabloid-ettes.
I never got to see my mom before she unexpectedly died. That was 15 years ago and those circumstances still grieve me tremendously. As is, Fred will be able to go forward...either way...knowing he spent time with his mom when it could’ve counted the most. I hardly think the nation will suffer over this.
As I view it, the age makes NO DIFFERENCE. It’s wonderful that people live vital lives into their 90’s. Two of my grandparents did.
Your hairsplitting about the serious illness of one close relative vs. another close relative....based on age....doesn’t pass the smell test in my book. Frankly it’s a little crass.
No way. Romney is not Ron Paul. Fred is closer to Romney. Romney will probably pick Fred as his VP.
Quite
Really? You’re saying there’s no difference between a 90 year old and a 9 year old being gravely ill, when it comes to balancing family vs. giving to the country? I disagree
“Romney will probably pick Fred as his VP.”
He could pick FRed, pick Ron Paul, or pick his nose. It wouldn’t make one iota of difference to me.
I will not vote for a stinking, lying, baby killing, gun grabbing, tax raising, take American business offshore, homo loving, POS, RINO!
I feel badly for those that have convinced themselves that he is anything but terribly bad for our Country. But, I do understand, panic and desperation is devastating to the mind.
It's fabulous. No one said anything to the contrary... We're not criticizing John Q. Public for staying with their mom while she's ill.
I'm talking about someone who's asked thousands of people for their support... time, money, you name it. He's also raised hopes among millions of people... and he's struggling badly... He NEEDED to do something now to stem the tide that's turned against him... He NEEDED to show that he's all in... The country needed to see it...
There's the difference. I don't appreciate you taking it out of context and making it seem like I don't care about our elders, that's BS. I just think that taking things into perspective, that's how I feel... The conservative movement and cause is much larger and much more important than him having to be there every minute with a mother who is not on her deathbed. As he stated, she's getting better.
I’m saying that’s up to the individual and no, perhaps there isn’t. Obviously an elderly person is less valuable to you than a youngster. I don’t devalue people like that. And a family member is a family member. Have you ever lost a parent?? A sibling??
What exactly is the country missing out on in these last 24 hours or so that Fred has been with his mom? I’ll concede that an announcement as to his plnas needs to be coming sooner rather than later. We’ll know the answer soon enough.
But what exactly is hurting America out of Fred’s loyalty to his mom?
ROTFL...and amen!
As far as how he's hurting America, the few supporters he still had are now once and for all going to jump ship, as it gives the impression that he is soon departing... Not all, but I'd bet more than a few. He's essentially giving up, and it's a reason that I don't fully understand. That's just MHO
Before someone tries to correct my grammar... yes, I realize it’s “those are the facts”
Know anyone at 3COM? Ask them what they think of Myth or Bain...and, BTW, ask them if they speak Chinese.
Know any (ex-) air traffic controllers? Ask them what THEY think of Ronald Reagan. Go ahead.
Thank you for the reality check here - having lost both parents - he is doing exactly the right thing. I married a man quite a bit younger. His mother lives with us and I care for her very tenderly. I know how precious those last years and days are even if her children do not.
I like Fred Thompson that much better for looking after his Mom.
If he drops out I don’t know who I’ll vote for. I cannot vote for McCain or Huckabee and I don’t think I can vote for Romney. I think if that is what it comes to this will be a very bad election for conservatives.
When the so-called conservative choices are only barely distinquishable from the liberal choices, where do those voters go?
What is it with this forum lately about jumping on every rumor?
“First of all, it may not be PC to state this, but the facts are, you’ll arouse a great deal more sympathy if you have a 9 year old that’s gravely ill, and you suspend your campaign, than a 90 year old...”
WTF? Do you just make this shiite up as you go along?
It’s not pessimism. It’s pragmatism. We will lose, even if we win. I’m not gonna go Pollyannish to please those who are too gullible that they buy into Romney’s conversion to conservativism.
Yes, I do. The ones that aren’t truck drivers, or Mc managers, think they were wrong, and Reagan was right. And, so do I.
Facts are stubborn things, aren’t they?
