Study: Danes most fearful of Islam

A new report warns against a lack of dialogue and a widening gap between Islam and the West.

Danes are among the most critical of Islam, according to a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Some 79 percent of Danes responded in a poll that they considered more interaction with the Muslim world as a threat.

The worry was shared by a large majority in other European countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, where up to 67 percent of the population feared more Western interaction with Muslim communities.

The message of the report was clear: there was a widening gap between the West and Islam.

'There is an alarmingly low optimism regarding dialogue between the two worlds,' said Klaus Schwab, founder of the WEF, to Berlingske Tidende newspaper.

The WEF had conducted surveys in 21 countries (half of which were Muslim) throughout 2007. And the general picture was one of distrust.

The Danes' and other Europeans' views on interaction with the Islamic world as a threat was, according to the report, due to a 'growing fear' of the 'Islamic threat' against their European identities.

This assumption was based on 'increased immigration from predominantly Muslim regions' the report said.

“How about all these snappy responses, WC?”

- I’d say resistance to Islam looks very strong in the US.

But just like over here in Europe, a lot of people are very naive in America and just like in the case of the Old World, journalism and the academic world of the USA is predominantely in the hands of Liberals, Socialists and others who couldn’t care less about true Western values.

In the long run, Christianity and Western values is definitely threatened in all of our countries.

There was an article in the Financial Times this past weekend which made the rather cogent argument that socialist scandanavians didn’t fully realize that their “utopia of fairness” was predicated on a share cultural consensus. In other words, a homogeneous, non-Muslim society.

Spain is at 67% which does NOT surprise me. I’ve never met a Spaniard who had a good thing to say about Muslims.

Study: Danes most fearful of Islam

They have every right to be. Fear is often the first step in survival. islam is a death cult. It has no ennobling aspects. None.

do they even have an “army” to defend themselves there?

Defending Europe has been Americas job for too long. It allowed European nations to spend their money going socialist, instead of defending themselves.

“Some may not know that Danish troops have deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. They’re not just “fearful,” they’re doing something about it. And they have this Yank’s thanks.”

- Nice to hear an American recognize that there are Europeans who risk their lives too in the WOT.

At the same time, as a European, I think we could do a lot more in this field and I understand Americans who feel we don’t contribute enough against fighting a common enemy.

In any case, the WOT will last over a long period of time and there is plenty of time to turn things right.

I choose to concentrate on the many positive signs of an improved dialog between Europe and America and think about where this could take us. To begin with, perhaps we can agree Sarkozy is a lot better spokesman for ordinary Europeans than Chirac was. Chiracs behavior was an insult, not only to the United States of America.

Sounds like the Japanese too. A small island country who protects their culture obessively in order to keep their national strength (as a "round eye", try being accepted in every day Japan as just one of the guys. It will never happen.)

Ditto. My next door neighbor, of Danish stock (and proud of it; he named his son Dane) was a soft spoken, public school educator who also happened to be a Marine combat officer in Korea, although you’d never know it by his demeanor. Spoke quietly but carried a big stick......smart as hell, too.

“Could it be all those Danish flags that were burned with chants of death and beheading?”

Lol, it can’t have helped.
