Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

"At least he didn’t back McCain."

I am not convinced that Huckabee is a better choice.

I’ve always been a supporter of both Hunter and Huckabee. They essentially have the same platform (FairTax, fair trade, deport illegals) even if Huckabee uses populist rhetoric and has a mixed record on the issues.

The choice now is between Huckabee and Romney, unless you want someone openly running on a statist, pro-amnesty platform.

Absolutely Hillarious sign ROFLMAO.

However, any candidate with an endorsement and $3.87 can buy a gallon of Hugo Chavez gasoline at the local 7-11.

ooH, ooH, ooH help me my head is splooodin, boooom!

Huck is toast. Any endorsement by Hunter will mean nothing. Most folks do not even know who Hunter is. I am sorry I ever supported him.

I know I am on the verge of staying home. If it ends up, McCain, Rudy or Huck, I will stay home.

..but seriously ladies and gentlemen

I presently do not understand this one at all, Michelle Malkin is calling for Advil, people are screaming and throwing things all over the country--why did he do it?

But then I was thinking--

Those of us who have worked for and supported DH these many months and, like myself, have followed him for decades, KNOW that this is a man of integrity. He would never do anything that would put the security, sovereignty, or prosperity of the US in danger. It may be moot anyway if I read the polling right. But I personally believe DH thought this one through--even if I don't agree with the decision...

Well, I was just guessing as to *why* he went with Huck.
I didn’t mean to imply he wasn’t also fiscally conservative.

The Democrats like him, too, Lib. They know they couldn*t have gone as far left as he has and got away with it. The next president, R or D, will shove us farther into socialism and in the end, slavery. I liked Jorge too until after 9/11 when he started catering to Muslims and calling Islam the ROP. The trouble is, there are millions of idiot Americans out there who are brainwashed by the constant drumbeat of PC that they have allowed tens of thousands of Islamic troublemakers(kind word)build mosques (arsenals)and scream their propaganda thruout the nation. Our intelligence agencies and even our military is infiltrated and if you haven*t been pay8ing attention , get smart!

Huckabee cannot be trusted on illegal immigration. The undocumented workers are killing Americans in horrific car crashes, raping and murdering Americans including border agents. Huck says their children deserve an education.

N.O.P.E. Murder and abortion are the same in my book.

You’re probably correct. I’d say it’s more likely that he wants to join the cast of the Imus show!

"You could certainly argue that Huckabee's the most principled, conservative candidate remaining."

I would argue that he is the least principled and conservative candidate, not that I am impressed with any of the others.

Hunter has criticized Romney on Bain Capital...

Which was complete idiocy. Romney left Bain years ago; he has no control whatsoever over their current activities. Hunter showed himself to be a complete loon when he did that.

Do you think Hunter criticized Romney for purely political gain? Hunter is a patriot first. He may know things you don't
