Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I agree. I am going to wait and watch.

McCain, the RINO pick, who DH believes is dangerous, would mean a Hillary win.

If Romney had dumped and condemned Bain Capital, DH might have endorsed him?

Giuli’s out of the question...

Ron Paul makes statements about the integrity of our military...

Perhaps Huck’s made promises. One poster has his border plan up. I don’t like it either, but... we shall see.

Blooomberg will get in if Huck’s the nominee, though, because the fat cats are afraid of Huck.

My post said “supporters or endorsments”.

Rush Limbaugh has certainly said very supportive things about Romney’s candidacy.

He just said this week that “I am certain that Romney’s support for conservatism is genuine.”

He also said today that Romney is leading in Florida with 32% of the support, compared to 20% for McCain, 15% for Huckabee, and 10% for Guiliani.

One of Rush’s MO’s is to read stories with which he agrees.

THAT way he is not taking a definitive stand, but everyone knows that what he wants and thinks.

Well...

Giuliani is a social liberal, so he's out.

Romney is a pro-China globalist, so he's out.

McCain is a backstabber and weak on immigration, so he's out.

That leaves Huckabee as the most palatable of a bad lot.

Just remember who it was that kept his son from justice under the law... but they both will be judged by a higher law.

Rest assured there is confusion over at the DU as well.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Freepers are shocked at Hunter endorsing Huckabee?

Watch the shock in DU land when Hillery and Obama combine on the Democrat presidential ticket.

All their fight is about now is who will be pilot and co-pilot. Obummer wants the command seat.Hillery is tired of workin under a man.

I am not sure if Fred, given his age, would relish a role as a caretaker VP. That said, the way this crazy election cycle is going anything might happen. Would he take the job if he thought it might help keep the White House in GOP hands. He just might if push comes to shove.

Of course some of us thought that Bush would be kept in line by Cheney too, and we all have seen how that has turned out.

All of this is nothing new for the GOP. The split between conservatives and the establishment types in the party has been going on for years, culminating with the battle royal for the nomination in 1976 between Reagan and Ford.

I hope you guys have enough respect for Hunter to take his endorsement seriously and give Huckabee another look.

Respecting a man enough to elect him leader of the free world and then respecting him enough to re-evaluate the man he is endorsing in his place?!

Why, Why, WHY THAT would be LOGICAL!!!

Maybe on the Free Republic over five years ago, but not on the FR today. It is now the same as asking for logic on DU. FR and DU are both now all about emotion, not reason. It used to be that way with just DU.

Maybe someone would suggest a way we could live if we slaughtered no animals for food, or to keep them out of crops, and who would feed all these animals? Humans are carnivores.

Do you think Hunter criticized Romney for purely political gain?

Either that or he's senile.

Hunter is a patriot first. He may know things you don't

Then he can come out with them. But I doubt he has some secret knowledge of the inner workings of the management at Bain Capital.

That's not a bill, it's a rant.

Like everything else Paul does, he's giving a long list of everything he wants - or everything that anyone who will talk with him wants, I'm not quite sure - without the slightest clue or concern about how all these things get done, or why some less than desirable things must be overcome before he gets his lollipop - as if it's for the grownups to deal with.

Just like during the debates, when he said 1: The whole reason that Al Qaeda is mad at us is because we invaded Iraq & Afghanistan (Ironically true, but not how Paul meant it - Paul implied Iraq and Afghanistan BELONGED to Al Qaeda, and completely missed that 911 came BEFORE the war) and

2; After taking the stand that we need to leave Iraq RIGHT NOW, he was asked what plan would he put into place to draw down the troops to prevent a vacuum that Iran/AlQaeda/Syria would fill - "No plan, just tell them to come home".

Paul always has something for everyone, but always retreats if it ticks someone off, such as that his racist and white supremacist viewpoints on his newsletter are his.....and continues to be the only candidate who willingly accept their donations.

That, IMO, is because he is a two faced simpleton, a childlike parroting fool who would leave this country completely defenseless.

We prayed our way out of algore’s attempt to steal the 2000 election. My neighbor’s church fasted and prayed, so I tried that. I would give up all goodies........then in a moment of joy, once again thinking it was OVER would have some candy......the next morning we would find out it was not over. This reminds me of that time period. The ups and downs were horrific as they are now.

For SEC purposes, small businesses are defined as domestic companies with revenues of under $25 million, and not investment companies. Subsidiaries of larger companies do not qualify as small businesses.

He made me reconsider Governor Huckabee. I’d left him out of my decision who, if anyone, to support in the primary. If Hunter thinks he’s the best one remaining, he is worth that evaluation.

Similar to my reasoning.

They are ALL flawed! They have ALL flip-flopped on issues important to conservatives!

So I ask who is the most likely to do right by the issues important to me? I am primarily a social conservative, before fiscal and before international.

Huckabee started out the social conservative, so he is my choice. He is the most likely of the remaining candidates to give me conservative judges and justices. He is the most likely to protect the unborn and to protect the Second Amendment.

Hmmm, maybe that is what Duncan Hunter thought too.

But I personally believe DH thought this one through--even if I don't agree with the decision...

If he really thought it through, then it's even worse than I thought. I'm thinking he just fell for Huck's likability...
