Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I feel that he is strongly committed to ... constructing the border fence

Actually, if I believed that, I wouldn't be so opposed to Huck as I am. It is precisely because Huck is so ambivalent about enforcing border security that he ranks so low in my estimation.

I love Hunter, but I disagree with his view of Huck. He probably has grown to like Huck as a person during the campaign, and thats understandable. But Huck for me ranks just ahead of McCain, who is not even on my list.

That Hunter chose to endorse a liberal/socialist,pro-Amnesty for illegals, marxist namely Huckabee shows me that Hunter is not that smart and is easily fooled.

What does it matter that the Huckster says he is a good Christian and pro-life when Huckabee will turn the U.S,. into a socialist state where we will all be starving?

Huckabee Begs For New Taxes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pLOC4krZI4

Huckabee Caught Lying About His Tax Hikes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYrGlfkvRV0&feature=related

Huckabee is a pro-illegal, pro-Amnesty, tax raising, big government loving, socialist/liberal, violent criminal pardoning, terrorist appeasing, false prophet. In other words Huckabee is really a Democrat.

Mike Huckabee supports AMNESTY for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypdd0AKJ_Qs&feature=related

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=24142&s=rcmc

As governor, Mr. Romney vetoed a bill to give illegal aliens drivers’ licenses. He vetoed a bill to reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition rates. He supported English immersion policies and fought efforts to weaken them. He opposed sanctuary policies and signed a so-called 287(g) agreement with Homeland Security to enable Massachusetts State Troopers to help enforce immigration law.

Mr. Romney strongly opposes amnesty and sanctuary cities and would shut down the “jobs magnet” that draws many illegal aliens. In short, he and Mr. Tancredo agree on many of the major aspects of the immigration issue.

In contrast, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has a long, awful record on immigration issues. The GOP Jimmy Carter has lately flip-flopped on immigration.

As governor, Mr. Huckabee opposed a bill to require proof of citizenship to register to vote. The bill would have also required state agencies to turn in illegals.

Mr. Huckabee fought that, as well as a bill to deny illegal aliens taxpayer-funded public benefits. Then-Gov. Huckabee backed issuing drivers’ licenses to illegal aliens.

Mr. Huckabee supported a partial amnesty as governor, in the form of in-state tuition for illegal aliens. He even tried to advantage illegals with scholarships.

He continues to support rewarding illegal aliens who claim to have entered the country as children with in-state tuition -- effectively taxpayer-subsidized education. When Mr. Romney pressed him on this at the CNN debate in November, Mr. Huckabee said, “we are a better country than to punish children for what their parents did,” as if that were the end of the argument.

WHAT the heck?

This is the year of the odd couple. Endorser/Endorsee:
Brownback - McCain
Tancredo - Romney
Hunter - Huckabee.

These people act as if they’ve never seen politics play out before. The simple fact is that endorsements seldom help or hurt either the candidate or the endorser.

However I wouldn’t be surprised that Hunter will pick up a lot of support from current Huckabee supporters if he (Hunter) chooses to run again. Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if Hunter’s son were the real beneficiary here.

Huckabee is a good guy despite what all these folks say on Freepers, if they got to know him, and talked to him, and spend some time with him they’d think otherwise ....

Of the remaining candidates, Huckabee is the most acceptable if for no other reason than he can be counted on to appoint conservative judges and justices. The same cannot be said for McCain, Romney, and certainly no Guiliani.

Agreed. But I'm not happy about it! All of the remaining choices stink!

Hello,

Wow.

The last day or so has been insane! Fred drops out, basically in an e-mail. This morning Matt Blunt (Gov of MO and a Republican) dropped out of his upcoming reelection race, totally shocking everyone. Now, Hunter endorses the Huckster.

Just wow.

So no matter what he does he’ll get criticized.

I don't see anyone criticizing Thompson for not endorsing anyone.

Huckabee is the greatest threat to the Republic of all candidates running. To endorse him, for any reason, leaves your conservative credentials shattered.

That is weird given Hunter’s very different stance on illegals and makes one wonder what the heck is going on and what he was thinking.
