Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

Oh man, talk about a flip-flop, that’s Hunter. He was our man on illegals and the border and now he backs a proven amnesty proponent.

I don't get it. The Twilight Zone epispde I thought I was in has turned into The Far Side.

Talk about the ultimate loser... You take the cake.

Pro-life is NON-NEGOTIABLE.
2nd Amendment is NON-NEGOTIABLE.

Go peddle your liberal crack to the WAnkers. Your precious RINOs will not win in November, no matter what you do.

Wow. Never saw this coming. Hunter would have got my vote if he had shown any ability to compete nationally. Just days ago, Phil Gramm, my conservative hero from 1996, stood on a stage in SC and publicly endorsed McCain! Has the GOP gone completely mad? If the economy stays bad through the summer, the GOP is going to take a licking on the scale of Goldwater-LBJ in 1964.

My opinion of Hunter just went down to ZERO. I need to re-read WHY and then read BETWEEN THE LINES to try to figure it out — or maybe it’s just not worth it...

Hunter undoubtedly had a closer look at Huckabee than conservative media commentators who have never met Huckabee or people commenting on a forum who have never bothered to research original sources or take a close look at what Huckabee actually says rather than what others are saying about him.

It speaks volumes that the candidates who have had a chance to get to know one another personally generally like Mike and dislike Mitt, as did the Iowa voters who were able to evaluate candidates face-to-face.

My nomination for Post of the Day, djr.

Why did Hunter run in the first place? I thought it was cheeky of a congressman to run for president.

gun-grabbing baby killer department. I said nothing about Homos at all, though I can if you want me to...

Where specifically did Romney, NOT the courts and NOT the legislature, push for more abortions.

Where specifically did Romney push to have government sanctified homo marriage?

Or where did Romney push to have homo Scout masters, or whatever the distorted charge?

And where did Romney introduce legislation to "grab" or confiscate your guns?

One bad endorsement cancels out his entire life and service?

I just can’t see that.

It seems many people have this distorted view of Australia as some bastion of conservative sanity-why, I’ll never know. Just haven’t really studied the country’s politics, I guess.

It’s probably based upon Evangelical Christian. Dobson might endorse such a ticket as the 2 HuHu’s.

I guess my hopes of redrafting Hunter are down the tubes.

It isn’t difficult to see that whoever the Republican nominee winds up being, writing in Alan Keyes will accomplish nothing other than helping the eventual socialist nominee - who, by the way, is 100% guaranteed to be anti-gun and pro-abortion. You might feel better, but you’re not going to accomplish anything positive.

Relax.

All of the remaining candidates are or were “pro amnesty.” The lone exception is Romney, who SAYS he’s against it (hence how he got the Tancredo endorsement) but has a record of saying just about anything to get elected and his record just doesn’t jibe.

As much as I hate Huckabee, Hunter has respect for other people. To not endorse a candidate (virtually every Congressman does) would have been an insult beneath his manners. I’m guessing he went with his fellow pro-life Baptist FairTax supporter in making this decision. Not entirely all that surprising, if somewhat disappointing.

Medicare D, NCLB, Flake amendments, RSC alternative Budget..

We may be arguing over semantics but Hunter voted the wrong way on all these historic votes in last several years.

He either believed in these votes which makes him ignorant or socialist or he didn’t believe in them but voted wrong out of expediency, which makes him corrupt. He is a great man, but he is corrupted politically. Great case for term limits.

Hunter’s record is filled with liberal votes. This is no surprised.

Most people are surprised because they were duped by people like pissant posted faux claims of his conservatism.

When all is said and done, who is whispering in Duncan’s ear?

His endorsement pleases HER and their church.

On to their #1 campaign ~ electing Duncan Duane to congress.
