An Ex-President, a Mining Deal and a Big Donor (Clinton donor rec’d lucrative uranium mining deal)
New York Times ^ | January 31, 2008 | By JO BECKER and DON VAN NATTA Jr.

Late on Sept. 6, 2005, a private plane carrying the Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra touched down in Almaty, a ruggedly picturesque city in southeast Kazakhstan. Several hundred miles to the west a fortune awaited: highly coveted deposits of uranium that could fuel nuclear reactors around the world. And Mr. Giustra was in hot pursuit of an exclusive deal to tap them.

Unlike more established competitors, Mr. Giustra was a newcomer to uranium mining in Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic. But what his fledgling company lacked in experience, it made up for in connections. Accompanying Mr. Giustra on his luxuriously appointed MD-87 jet that day was a former president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

Upon landing on the first stop of a three-country philanthropic tour, the two men were whisked off to share a sumptuous midnight banquet with Kazakhstan’s president, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, whose 19-year stranglehold on the country has all but quashed political dissent.

Mr. Nazarbayev walked away from the table with a propaganda coup, after Mr. Clinton expressed enthusiastic support for the Kazakh leader’s bid to head an international organization that monitors elections and supports democracy. Mr. Clinton’s public declaration undercut both American foreign policy and sharp criticism of Kazakhstan’s poor human rights record by, among others, Mr. Clinton’s wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Within two days, corporate records show that Mr. Giustra also came up a winner when his company signed preliminary agreements giving it the right to buy into three uranium projects controlled by Kazakhstan’s state-owned uranium agency, Kazatomprom.

The monster deal stunned the mining industry, turning an unknown shell company into one of the world’s largest uranium producers in a transaction...

Stop living in the past and move on.

We’re trying to do the work of the people, while you insist on the politics of personal destruction.

Did I miss anything?

Oh,yeah! Blah, blah, blah ...Vast Right Wing Conspiracy!

I'm not sure where the tea comes in but this is yet another ugly and typical mess brought home by the Clintons.

Don't forget their scorings in the "cattle-gate", also!!!

But I’ve come to the conclusion that the Clinton corruption machine must be stopped at all costs.

&&&&&

Our world of satellite communication, and private MD87s, and cellphone computers is a very different world from Jimmy Carter’s 1976. Four years of Clintons will cause irreparable change and harm to our country. We will become another Venezuela politically.

Clinton just got about $20million from his “job” with Burkle

Speaking of scandals...

...this very fine Burkle fellow is known far and wide as a connoissoir of young ladies. In fact, he is known to "order" young women to give him a massage...young women NO OLDER THAN FOURTEEN!

There's your scandal....all those people who hobnob with Burkle know this. One of these days may this horrific truth come out.

The New Yorker editor added: “Clinton’s appeal for these tycoons is obvious: In exchange for giving money to a good cause — the Clinton Foundation’s budget last year was $30 million dollars — you not only have the usual tax break and the knowledge that you are doing good but also get to play Oh Hell [a card game] until five in the morning with a two-term ex-President who knows how to have a good time.”

There is no hope when the Clinton's have this kind of money to throw around.

The New York Times, no less. I guess I’m more shocked that the story appears in NYT. I’m not shocked anymore by anything the Clinton’s do, just the fact that they continue to get away with it. Where does it end?

And a month after Clinton’s visit to Kazakhstan this happened:

OCTOBER 22, 2005 : (TANZANIA : CUSTOMS OFFICIALS DISCOVER SHIPMENT OF URANIUM 238 WHICH HAD BEEN SMUGGLED FROM THE LUBUMBASHI MINES IN CONGO IN A SHIPMENT OF COLTAN DESTINED FOR KAZAKHSTAN VIA THE IRANIAN PORT OF BANDAR ABBAS) Tanzanian customs officials told The Sunday Times it was destined for the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, and was stopped on October 22 last year during a routine check. ... A senior Tanzanian customs official said the illicit uranium shipment was found hidden in a consignment of coltan, a rare mineral used to make chips in mobile telephones. The shipment was destined for smelting in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, delivered via Bandar Abbas, Iran’s biggest port. “There were several containers due to be shipped and they were all routinely scanned with a Geiger counter,” the official said. “This one was very radioactive. When we opened the container it was full of drums of coltan. Each drum contains about 50kg of ore. When the first and second rows were removed, the ones after that were found to be drums of uranium.” In a nuclear reactor, uranium 238 can be used to breed plutonium used in nuclear weapons. The customs officer, who spoke to The Sunday Times on condition he was not named, added: “The container was put in a secure part of the port and it was later taken away, by the Americans, I think, or at least with their help. We have all been told not to talk to anyone about this.” -————— “Iran’s plot to mine uranium in Africa,” Jon Swain, David Leppard and Brian Johnson-Thomas, The Sunday Times (U.K.), 08/06/06,ke to The Sunday Times on condition he was not named, added: “The container was put in a secure part of the port and it was later taken away, by the Americans, I think, or at least with their help.
