Seven good reasons to support Mike Huckabee [be sure to read reason number seven]
The dark and jumbled recesses of my aging feeble brain | January 31, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/31/2008 2:09:25 PM PST by Jim Robinson

My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.

Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!

And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?

McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!

Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.

Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!

And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!

My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).

Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.

Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!

Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!

Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

Woo hoo!!

Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!

Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.

Long live the Reagan Revolution!

I think you're in the minority opinion on this one.

I'll accept that. But the majority opinion fails to take into account that Huck's supporters are there as hard core evangelicals, probably primarily because he is the only pro-life candidate. Do you really suppose they would cheerfully hop on-board a pro-choice bandwagon? Romney's support with the pro-life crowd is very, very slim.

That's taking an awful big chance. Remember CFR? Bush signed it thinking that SCOTUS would overturn it.

Besides, I don't think Thompson's going to electrify the conservatives in this country. Maybe Newt...

If for a moment I thought your strategy would work, I would give it a try...my dislike for Huckabee is exceeded only by my absolute dislike of the idea of having an insane man as President...but the liklihood of getting to a brokered convention is small and the probability of the Party Elite selecting McCain[e] is high.

I will throw my support to Romney and hope. I have already made my public statement on McCain on my webpage. I will not vote for McCain under any circumstances.

Better a Hillary or Barrack against whom I can work freely and against whom the Republicans (what's left of them) in Congress can work, than have "McInsane's" finger on the button.

Nice reasoning though...too bad its doomed to fail...besides it'll all be decided before we Texans can vote.

Yeah, I got that email from numbersusa a few day ago.

One thing that bugs me is that I wish they’d stop using 12 million as the number of illegals here. They’ve been using it for about 5 years now and I’m pretty sure plenty more illegals have made it across the border in the past 5 yrs.

Would they be happier with McCain’s record on abortion?

Please provide grounds for impeaching him. I don’t know of any, and I don’t think there are many out there that are less inclined to vote for him than I.

We'll find something. Just takes a little creativity. He double crossed us on legislation after legislation. One good turn deserves another.

Hey, good point. That’s how we’ll get Fred as President, get McCain pick Fred as his VP and then impeach McCain after he gets elected. It’s as good a plan as the brokered convention idea.

Well given that Oregon’s slot in the Primaries is basically irrelevant, I am gonna have to hold my nose and vote with the leader at that time. Because Frankly I can not even begin to imagine the horror should Hillary or Obama get into the WH.

CHOOSE WELL fellow FReepers! Don’t make me cry when I fill out my Mail in ballot! (I may cry anyway)

When you swear to uphold murderous evil to your prospective constituents, and actually argue the case FOR abortion, and FOR allowing underage girls to murder their unborn children (even allowing a smug, self-congratulatory smirk to flicker across his mug while doing so), the blood is on your hands.

This man is no conservative:

I get so tired of saying this. I’m not for McCain. Standing on his own, I cannot vote for Mitt Romney. Don’t compare him to anyone else. It doesn’t matter to me.

Right now I’m a dedicated write-in in November.

Either we shake up the convention and something decent rolls out on the floor, or I’m voting no confidence with a write-in.

You don’t have to do that. Do what your concience tells you, but at least vote for the man straight up, not comparing him to some other guy.

If you can’t support him when he stands alone on his own merits, give it a pass. If you can, then do so.

Jim, sound logic there. I had come to the conclusion that Huck is the last pro-life, anti-culture of death candidate left in the race and that for me is a must issue....

I hope the Mittbots heads don’t explode reading your thoughts...

I REALLY like (and pray for) #7.

It’s not on your hands when you have no power to affect things one way or another, that’s simple logic.

You keep saying it doesn’t make it true.
