Seven good reasons to support Mike Huckabee [be sure to read reason number seven]
The dark and jumbled recesses of my aging feeble brain | January 31, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/31/2008 2:09:25 PM PST by Jim Robinson

My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.

Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!

And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?

McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!

Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.

Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!

And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!

My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).

Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.

Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!

Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!

Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

Woo hoo!!

Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!

Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.

Long live the Reagan Revolution!

Except that even if you get Romney, he won’t win in November. Florida proved that. He can’t win over the south and he can’t win core conservatives. if it is his name on the November ballot they will just sit at home.

BS. Romney lost by 5 pts. while Huckabee lost by 22. Those 14 pts. plus most of McCains would go to Romney. If Huckabee had been out Romney would have decisevly beat McCain.

Yep Romney just dumped 7 figures to flood the air waves.
Another truck load or two of cash.
NO amount of cash will pay for the for the abortions the loss of the second amendment rights or for socialized insurance I am for Mike because he is a better man than McCain and Romney put together.

Campaign promises are worth diddly squat."

And that is exactly why Rush Limbaugh has always said if you want to know how a candidate will govern, look at his record not his statements during the campaign.

If you look at these three candidates' records, Mitt Romney has THE MOST liberal record of the Republicans, followed closely by McCain. Huckabee, while certainly a RINO has nowhere near the magnitude of baggage the other two have.

Having said that, I don't want any of them and will likely vote for Fred Thompson or Alan Keyes in the primary here in Maryland.

I truly pray that we have a brokered convention that nominates Fred as the GOP candidate.

By following your vision, McCain and Huckabee combined will have enough for the nomination and sure as the sun rises Huckabee will throw his delegates to McCain.

I agree that a McCain/Huckabee deal is shaping up. But my understanding of the rules is that after the first ballot the delegates are unpledged and can vote for whomever they want. Huck can ask his delegates to then support McCain, and perhaps many or most would, but Huckabee has no power to direct how they vote. And we would have four or five months to publicly campaign for some other deal between the primaries and the convention.

Botton line. None of the candidates still running have my vote or the votes of many others.

You can simply give up now, because you’ll NEVER get these guys elected without us, or you can push for a plan that may turn out better than what we look at now.

Have it your way. You won’t get my vote, pure and simple.

Just me watching this thread and watching all those who are vocally opposing Jim.

Just like the many who went to Zot-City with him in this thread.
Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?

This is gonna be another one of those classic threads, people. Grab the popcorn. Watch the FReepers fall. And hang on!

If it isn't McCain, then it will be Romney.

We'll hold our nose and vote or stay home..sadly, it's come down to that.

Huckabee can't get the nomination. He's running on empty, praying for a VP slot.

The “Huckabee Surplus” enabled his successor to follow Huckabee’s lead to begin the elimination of the state sales tax on food.

Bullcrap. You're saying it's someone else's fault that Huckabee begged the Arkansan Legislature to raise taxes. You wouldn't accept that for any other candidate. We'll put you down in the "irrational Huckabee supporter" camp. You neglected to mention his expansion of ArKids was huge (not court mandated). And when Huckabee had the chance to eliminate the state sales tax on food, he said "no." Then when the Democrat governor following him did eliminate the tax, Huckabee TOOK CREDIT FOR IT. DESPITE OPPOSING IT WHILE HE WAS GOVERNOR. You're either a shill or a naive Christian or both.

Jim, I don’t think Huck has a chance at this point and that leaves it to McCain and Romney. Romney, while not our first choice, is heads and tails above McCain and I believe will govern much more closely to our ideals.

A McCain presidency will decimate most of what we hold dear and usher in an era of “let’s make a deal with the kennedy wing” republican politics. We will NEVER KNOW what he is going to do, but I got a feeling much of it were not going to like.

I understand you might not feel you can support Mitt over his flip flopping on abortion, but I do believe what he had to do in Mass. was simple political reality in such a lefty state. I think his heart is and has been in the right place and without the necessity of assuaging pro choice voters he will govern they way you would want him to and not just on this point but many others.

Remember, we can hold his feet to the fire the way we did with Bush on Alito and immigration. The imperial presidency of John McCain will never react positively to such interference in his reign.

We discussed once how one of the important benefits, maybe the most important, of holding the White House are the SC nominations. I am confident that with Romney we will get the nominees we need...McCain is a crap shoot at best.

Ron Paul, running at about 4% in Republican primaries is "the only one who can beat Obama or Clinton"? Mr. 4% can't beat a dead horse. Why do you publish such a comment in public?

Why are you trusting polling data instead of waiting for the results? He's still in the race at a time when you guys said he'd be history after IA.

BTW, we could actually do worse than have Huckabee as president. He can run a government, we know that. And in so doing didn’t pander to Northeastern liberals. Wow, look how far we can stretch this resoning!
