RUSH: I want to go back to the archives of this program. I want to illustrate for you my prescience. When I tell you that you are on the cutting edge of the societal evolution if you are a regular listener here, this will establish it. October 18th, 2006. This is prior to the November elections, the midterms, and I was getting phone call after phone call from conservatives saying they were not going to vote. They were mad as hell. They were sick and tired of the Foley thing and Macaca. They were sick and tired of Republicans not governing as Republicans, and to hell with it, and this is what I said to them.

RUSH ARCHIVES: This notion that it doesn't matter who wins because the Democrats aren't going to have a big enough majority? That's going to lead to another thing that I will share with you. It's going to lead to the nomination of John McCain for the Republican presidential candidacy. In two years, you same people who will have helped bring about an ascension to power by the Democrats, are going to be so angry -- you're going to be so fed up -- over what they have tried to do, over the things they will maybe have

Rush is like Dick Morris in that he makes so many different predictions that he is guaranteed to be right no matter what happens.

Failure to support Fred Thompson in the primary equals McCain ‘08.

Letting ten states pick the nominee instead of 50 gets you McCain ‘08. I don’t get to vote until May. National primary day now.

It’s really going to be painful to watch people we respect fall in behind McCain this year.

It’s probably a good year to just turn off the tube and the internet and find something else to do.

That’s the way I see it also, and it is rather iritating to see folks go boo hoo when we don’t trot out to vote for the garbage they support.

Yep, and supporting the one the tv tells you is the most electable.

I didn’t support Romney either. I’ve got no use for either of them.

Poor Rush has gone from supporting Rudy to supporting Romney to supporting McCain.

He must be getting dizzy.

Me too. Neither McCain nor Romney are genuine conservatives.

Failure to support Fred Thompson in the primary equals McCain ‘08.

Thompson didn't deserve to win because he didn't give a flip and was a lousy candidate. But even if he had gave it his all it wouldn't have changed things. He couldn't persuade enough people to vote for him. As an actor he could memorize and speak his lines but when it came time to really speak as a politician he bumbled through it. After Bush good public speaking is a prerequisite requirement.

The problem IMO is the lack of good candidates and the voters themselves - too many lean left or in the mushy middle. Until conservatives recruit some good candidates who can persuade a broad coalition of people to vote for them - conservative and liberal Republicans - then we will get this crap. There are lots of people in this country who don't follow politics that much and are easily persuaded - by the right politician.

We have to have a conservative leader who can bring people into the big tent. Politics Rule No. 1 - you have to have the votes.

Well, Rush was right on this one, mainly because the Huckabee voters were the same ones who stayed home in 2006 our of pique over feelings of being ignored. Remember how the PA voters turned on Santorum because he endorsed Specter, at the behest of the president? Santorum was one of our best conservatives, but they turned on him because of one lousy mistake.

"Thompson didn't deserve to win because he didn't give a flip and was a lousy candidate."

Now just a minute. He was a good candidate regardless of your opinion here, he just happened to have the media and the establishment against him (and he didn't have billions to spread around like Romney). He refused to go whoring after the job like Rudy McRombee and demonstrated the character of someone who was the most worthy of the office, with the record to match the rhetoric. I disagree profoundly that he "bumbled through." He is a good speaker who can articulate points. When he was up on stage with the other RINOs, it was clear who held the floor and who was a leader, and who wasn't... Thompson was the only one who could've united all the factions, and we wouldn't be seeing all this ugly infighting right now. He was a gift to us, and all this party and primary voters did was spit in his face. It was disgusting.
