RUSH: I want to go back to the archives of this program. I want to illustrate for you my prescience. When I tell you that you are on the cutting edge of the societal evolution if you are a regular listener here, this will establish it. October 18th, 2006. This is prior to the November elections, the midterms, and I was getting phone call after phone call from conservatives saying they were not going to vote. They were mad as hell. They were sick and tired of the Foley thing and Macaca. They were sick and tired of Republicans not governing as Republicans, and to hell with it, and this is what I said to them.
RUSH ARCHIVES: This notion that it doesn't matter who wins because the Democrats aren't going to have a big enough majority? That's going to lead to another thing that I will share with you. It's going to lead to the nomination of John McCain for the Republican presidential candidacy. In two years, you same people who will have helped bring about an ascension to power by the Democrats, are going to be so angry -- you're going to be so fed up -- over what they have tried to do, over the things they will maybe have

Rush is like Dick Morris in that he makes so many different predictions that he is guaranteed to be right no matter what happens.
Failure to support Fred Thompson in the primary equals McCain ‘08.
Dick Morris is never right.
Letting ten states pick the nominee instead of 50 gets you McCain ‘08. I don’t get to vote until May. National primary day now.
It’s really going to be painful to watch people we respect fall in behind McCain this year.
It’s probably a good year to just turn off the tube and the internet and find something else to do.
That’s the way I see it also, and it is rather iritating to see folks go boo hoo when we don’t trot out to vote for the garbage they support.
Could’ve been worse... it could’ve been Romney. *shudders*
Your comment, bshomoic, are just that...bs.
Yep, and supporting the one the tv tells you is the most electable.
I didn’t support Romney either. I’ve got no use for either of them.
He must be getting dizzy.
Rush is one the lessor of two evil guys that brought us to where we are today.
Me too. Neither McCain nor Romney are genuine conservatives.
Thompson didn't deserve to win because he didn't give a flip and was a lousy candidate. But even if he had gave it his all it wouldn't have changed things. He couldn't persuade enough people to vote for him. As an actor he could memorize and speak his lines but when it came time to really speak as a politician he bumbled through it. After Bush good public speaking is a prerequisite requirement.
The problem IMO is the lack of good candidates and the voters themselves - too many lean left or in the mushy middle. Until conservatives recruit some good candidates who can persuade a broad coalition of people to vote for them - conservative and liberal Republicans - then we will get this crap. There are lots of people in this country who don't follow politics that much and are easily persuaded - by the right politician.
We have to have a conservative leader who can bring people into the big tent. Politics Rule No. 1 - you have to have the votes.
Yes, dizzy all the way to the bank. ;-)
Well, Rush was right on this one, mainly because the Huckabee voters were the same ones who stayed home in 2006 our of pique over feelings of being ignored. Remember how the PA voters turned on Santorum because he endorsed Specter, at the behest of the president? Santorum was one of our best conservatives, but they turned on him because of one lousy mistake.
Thanks. You’re right.
I was for Duncan Hunter and Still would be too.
Now just a minute. He was a good candidate regardless of your opinion here, he just happened to have the media and the establishment against him (and he didn't have billions to spread around like Romney). He refused to go whoring after the job like Rudy McRombee and demonstrated the character of someone who was the most worthy of the office, with the record to match the rhetoric. I disagree profoundly that he "bumbled through." He is a good speaker who can articulate points. When he was up on stage with the other RINOs, it was clear who held the floor and who was a leader, and who wasn't... Thompson was the only one who could've united all the factions, and we wouldn't be seeing all this ugly infighting right now. He was a gift to us, and all this party and primary voters did was spit in his face. It was disgusting.
Do you have any other Liberal MSM talking points you would like to parrot?
IMO, McCain is the nominee this year becaue we had a RINO in there for the last four years, and conservatism just wasn’t pushed from the top.
The Republican party acts as if conservatism is a dirty four letter word. They’re running from it as fast as they can.
If that’s their mindset so be it, but don’t blame me because we continually move further left on the scale every four years.
Rush, what will four years of McCain buy conservatism? I’ll tell you what it will buy. Every time someone takes McCain to task, he will be defended at length by the party leaders. The conservatives that are taking him to task will be caste as trouble-makes and malcontents. And when McCain governs from the left on issue after issue, the conservatives will be under a continual rais of criticism.
Is this your idea of growing the conservative brand?
There won’t be one ounce of conservatism left when McCain is done with his first term.
IMO, if you take McCain to task over the next four years, McCain will support the introduction of the fairness doctrine again and you will be out of a job.
That’s generally the thanks liberals give those who come to their assistance inappropriately.
You genius... :)
So many are so delusional and out of touch with the real world. The last conservative POTUS was Ronald Reagan, who was an extraordinarily gifted politician who spent 25+ years preparing for the job. Some think that by magic, a Reagan like figure will pop out of the woodwork in 2012, if we let the RATS run things for the next 4 years. NOT!!! If the person if not here today, they will not be there in 2012. What the majority consider a "hard right wing conservative", can not win today without the same extradinary gifts of Reagan, i.e. the ability to seal the deal with the middle.
We should also consider the ‘winner take all’ issue. There was an article today that pointed out that NY and California, states which will not send republican electors to the electoral college, have a disproportionate effect upon the republican nominee
what if the number of republican delegates was related to the number of republican congressmen elected by that state - or - the number of electors from the prior presidential election? i am suggesting we search for some mechanism that would acknowledge the distribution of republicans.
Damn those voters! Now if we could just make it illegal for them to vote, out guy would win. /s
Uh huh. Thompson couldn't unite squat because he couldn't speak, persuade and reach sufficient numbers of people. Just because you liked him is irrelevant. It takes votes to win.
Again - until we have a conservative candidate who can speak and persuade left leaning Republicans as well as conservatives (Thompson couldn't even persuade enough of them to vote for him) into a big tent we're screwed. Unfortunately many on our side haven't a clue as to what the problem is and how to fix it. It can only be fixed by getting the right candidates recruited that can persuade and reach large numbers of people.
Those voters well earned the GOP the sobriquet of the “stupid party.”
He could speak, he could persuade. The RINO establishment and the media made sure he reached as few people as possible. Neither wanted a Conservative nominee, and like lemmings, the primary voters followed their lead, and you see where we are now. We had the best candidate since Reagan, and he was tossed away.
That’s not a parrot, that’s a macaw.
(seriously, though... that bird’s a macaw, not a parrot)
Sitting Out '06 Equals McCain '08I disagree. Electing another Bush results a McCain 08

Bears repeating, so I did. You have political truth and wisdom.
No he couldn't. He couldn't even persuade enough conservatives to vote for him much less moderates. How many votes did he get? The more people heard him the lower his poll numbers got. He was pathetic.
Good speaking skills is just a minimum preprequisite requirement. The candidate has to "reach" people and get them fired up. Thompson's results speaks volumes.
I’m sorry, but you’re just not talking about the same man. Your comments describing him as pathetic are more projections of yourself.
Then he is the gift that keeps on giving!
He is one of the principal reasons McCain is where he is at today. All summer long he was going to announce soon, real soon. The announcement kept getting delayed and other conservatives couldn't get any traction because Fred was going to be savior. When he finally entered he came across as lackluster and disinterested.
He went nowhere and it was too late for any other conservatives to get traction or join the battle.
He was the only viable Conservative in the race. He didn’t hand anything to McCain. Stupid primary voters did that all by themselves.
Nice try, but no prize.
When a candidate can't sell his ideas, its not the voters fault.
I’m right here in reality. Where the heck are you? (Another person in denial chimes in.)
When the customers aren’t aware of the product...
BTW, Mr. Pathetic, who were YOU supporting ? You smell like a Romneybot.
A macaw IS A PARROT, birdbrain.
Have a nice day.
Damn those voters! Now if we could just make it illegal for them to vote, out guy would win. /s
Now I know that in the context of the Republican primary, it's a little different, except in open primaries, as for the cause of McCain *gack* being the nominee presumptive. However, the number one prime priority for Republicans should be to push for immediate legislation on one very legitimate use of government: to require that photo ID be shown to vote in any election in America. That such a requirement doesn't exist right now is beyond comprehension.
That would go a long way to helping change elections. Another thing that would go a long way would be to make regsistering to vote an effort, rather than automatic enrollment. A third one would be to print the ballots in English ONLY!!!!! *rolls eyes*
Those three simple things would profoundly change elections.
I’m in the thread, bud. McCain needs to make him his running mate now.
Of course, Black Democrats will oppose voter IDs, since that would cramp their style in engaging in urban voter fraud.
