Watts Up With That? ^

Posted on 02/10/2008 4:02:58 AM PST by Bulwinkle

There have been a number of indications that January 2008 has been an exceptional month for winter weather in not only North America, but the entire Northern Hemisphere......

Now to add to this, we have images and reports from NOAA and Rutgers University of large anomalies of snow cover extent for the northern hemisphere in January 2008.

You all need to catch up with the new narrative. Its not called “global warming” anymore. Its called “climate change”. That way no matter what the “anomaly” is, the climate alarmists are always right!!

You haven’t been reading the memos, have you? It’s not ‘global warming’. It’s ‘global climate change’ now. Any change, warmer or colder, wetter or drier, etc., is ‘global climate change’ and it’s our fault.

Don’t count on it, both McCain and Hillary/Obama will be trying to top each other on who can do more to beat back so-called global warming.

In fact McCain’s new campaign song is, “Captain Planet, he’s our hero, gonna beat CO2 emissions back to zero.”

Avalanche danger may be worst in 20 years

LAKE WENATCHEE — Experts say this winter is shaping up to be the worst avalanche season in more than 20 years.

"This avalanche up here at Lake Wenatchee is telling us what our avalanche forecasters have been saying: We're in extreme avalanche danger right now," said Greg Thayer of the Wenatchee River Ranger District.

The Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center in Seattle reported today that slides are occurring throughout the Northwest this week, including the Stevens Pass area.

"We're going to hear about a lot more avalanches here in the next week," he said. "It's going to be one of those situations where people need to stay away from the steep and the deep. Even in the town of Leavenworth, if there are any roofs on houses that haven't slid yet, children need to stay away because they are going to be sliding.

Well kind of...it’s worse than we thought actually. It isn’t “global warming” anymore, it’s “climate change.” And this is far worse than just global warming. Man has so messed up the environment that it’s causing what I call, “enviro-confusion” on the part of the earth. You see, the earth doesn’t know what to do now. It’s out of control! It’s going to take more effort, more money and greater control of business in order to rein this in. And this has to happen faster than we ever thought before. That 10 year window Algore spoke about, is now down to 5 years. We don’t have much time...

That is a neat picture, where do you get an update?

I would suppose the white areas are snow cover whereas the gray areas are patchy snow or ice, correct?

Most of us who have observed the Chicken Little global warming hysteria can't help but notice the favored term which has come into vogue recently is "climate change."

I was a schoolboy in North Dakota during the March 4-8, 1966 blizzard which covered most of the Dakotas, Minnesota and the southern parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. I remember feeling cheated because the four day blizzard started on a Friday and we only got two day off school out of it. By Monday afternoon, the stores begin to open. The first items to get stripped off the shelves were coffee and tobacco.

It was only a year or two after that when schools begin to teach that industrialization were causing a new ice age. The theory was that carbon particles in the upper atmosphere would reflect sunlight away from the earth, providing a thin layer of insulation from the warming rays of the sun. The solution then was exactly the same as the solution proposed now-- more government control, particularly in the free world.

Click for narrative of March 4-8, 1966 blizzard which covered the Dakotas, Minnesota and southern Manitoba. This photo was taken the day after near Medina, North Dakota, epicenter of that blizzard

It is our responsibility to control the global climate. Too bad Cheney won’t let us use his weather machine for that, I guess we just need carbon trading to do it.

Learn this term ~ "F I M B U L W I N T E R".

Ignore all that stuff about rock and roll and mythology.

A Fimbul Winter happens every now and then. It's one where Winter comes, lasts through the next Spring, Summer and Fall, and turns into Winter again.

These suckers usually presage famine.

If the extended area of snow cover lasts into the Spring planting season, it's going to be a bad year.

Arctic sea-ice is defined as simply a condition were 15% or less of the water surface of the Arctic Ocean is open.

If 16% is open water, then there is no sea-ice.

Mighty small difference there, so I hope no one was planning on the Arctic Ocean's ice to completely disappear.

Yes, I have noticed that too. The climate is always changing, therefore its the fault of people. When you point to the fact that the Globe is not warming anymore, they will just say “Of course, its climate change—we told you so!”
