hummm...

Our supporters fund data management and scientific research at the project level. For example, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) supports the NSIDC Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) and funds the production and distribution of remote-sensing data sets. The National Science Foundation (NSF) provides data management for scientists doing polar research. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provides support for management of NOAA data sets at NSIDC and has funded many of the center's data-rescue activities. NASA, NOAA and NSF, as well as additional sources of funding, support NSIDC scientists and outreach activities through competitive grants and contracts NSIDC is part of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The University and CIRES provide a collaborative environment and support for our research.

This week the temperature never got above -13 on my porch, which makes it the lowest high temperature for a week in three years or more (I only looked at the data for the past three years). It’s -36 now, average low temperature for the week. There are no doubt colder temperatures elsewhere in Alaska.

‘Climate change’ is redundant in itself.

I have said this before but, we are going into a “Solar Min.” cycle, and thus the magnetic output from the sun. Since this is happening we will enter a period of global cooling or maybe a mini iceage. It has happened before & will happen again for as long as we live here on Planet Earth. The enviroment & planet are always in flux and never stays the same for very long. this is why we must adapt to this fact & or move to a planet where we can control the weather patterns and everything else. [JMHO though!]

About two years ago there was a FR post on a global warming thread showing quotes, maybe a dozen or two, by political and academic global warming activists exposing the dishonesty and the socialist economic agenda behind the global warming scam. For example there was one guy apparently there from the beginning of the movement who said something like we have to make it sound scary if we’re going to get people to believe in man-made global warming. That’s all I remember about it.

If anyone knows what thread this was, please ping me. Thanks.

Last summer's record low sea ice extent was preceded by low ice extent in the 2006-2007 winter season, as I've learned from perusal of the Modis Rapid Response archives.

The thing is that sea ice has had a remarkable resurgence starting in Dec 2007. Now as daylight creeps northward we can start to see some good images of it. Compare this image of the Baffin Sea from Feb 10, 2007 With yesterday's Feb 9, 2008 image.

I'm sure you'll agree the difference is quite striking. I wouldn't go so far as to say this signals the end of global warming, but it ought to assuage fears of a run-away meltdown. We'll have to see what the summer brings.

I might add that the current summer season in the Antarctic is showing extensive sea ice, and even the reformation of the Larsen A ice shelf, as you can see in this image from Feb 2, 2008. Note the collapsed Larsen B embayment to the south of Larsen A is filled with sea ice. In recent years these have been open water at this season. I'm waiting for any press notice of this development. I suppose the new Larsen A may not last the summer, but it looks to me like it will make it, and I'm rooting for it.

Interesting Videos from an Accuweather.com weatherman. He these from around his own house. Shows the arctic front that is blowing across Michigan into New York. Do not know where this weatherman is located, but it sounds like a New York accent.

I have been out in this kind of weather. Evanston, WY is the worst.. at about 7200 feet and the wind blows so much the trees all lean to the east. It can be miserable and dangerous.

The problem is that Solar Cycle 24 looks to be very weak. And right now we are experiencing a normal La Nina during the typical rising Solar Activity time frame, but because of the weak cycle 24, there is no increasing Solar Activity right now. So it is a double wammy. A La Nina with no increasing Solar Activity means lots of cosmic rays and lots of cloud formation. This year is gonna be quite a ride. Tornado alley is gonna be ripping since the Atlantic is still warm. The only thing that could stop this now would be for some major underseas volcanic activity in the Pacific, but even that would take 3-4 months to warm the Pacific. IMHO.

That is when the ice crystals/snow feel like needles on your exposed skin. After this arctic blast passes, the predictive models are showing a massive area with -40 F’s developing in north central Canada. We will have to hope the jet stream keeps that next blast out of the US.

We are definitely looking for “zonal flow” by the sub-arctic jet stream.

The end of global warming

No, this is cause by by global warming. The extra heat in the atmosphere causes more evaporation from the oceans, and the increased moisture in the air leads to heavier precipitation over the poles.
