The way I read this is that January was the largest snow cover ever recorded, since records began in 1966.

Avalanche danger may be worst in 20 years

LAKE WENATCHEE — Experts say this winter is shaping up to be the worst avalanche season in more than 20 years.

"This avalanche up here at Lake Wenatchee is telling us what our avalanche forecasters have been saying: We're in extreme avalanche danger right now," said Greg Thayer of the Wenatchee River Ranger District.

The Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center in Seattle reported today that slides are occurring throughout the Northwest this week, including the Stevens Pass area.

"We're going to hear about a lot more avalanches here in the next week," he said. "It's going to be one of those situations where people need to stay away from the steep and the deep. Even in the town of Leavenworth, if there are any roofs on houses that haven't slid yet, children need to stay away because they are going to be sliding.

I know they always said that when I lived up in Syracuse lol

All this weird weather is because of La Nina, which is a particularly strong one this time.

Well kind of...it’s worse than we thought actually. It isn’t “global warming” anymore, it’s “climate change.” And this is far worse than just global warming. Man has so messed up the environment that it’s causing what I call, “enviro-confusion” on the part of the earth. You see, the earth doesn’t know what to do now. It’s out of control! It’s going to take more effort, more money and greater control of business in order to rein this in. And this has to happen faster than we ever thought before. That 10 year window Algore spoke about, is now down to 5 years. We don’t have much time...

OK, that does it. I'm going to quit my job, cash in my savings, max out my credit cards and go live it up in the garden spots of the world. First stop...Monaco. Then Tuscany. I'll figure out where else to go from there. Woooohooooo!!

remember when people used to say: "If you don't like the weather... wait five minutes, it will change." ???

Pretty much like it is here this time of year. For the moment, it's springlike...gorgeous, sunny and mild. In a few minutes, it could be chilly and drizzly. Heck, it could even snow...

I am going to be really dumb now and ask... If the records started in 1966, don’t we need a little more information over time to determine global climate et al? ...oh, nevermind.
