Bill Clinton derides Obama candidacy as ‘smoke and mirrors’
The Examiner [Washington, DC] ^ | Feb 12, 2008 | Susan Ferrechio

With Virginia considered Hillary Clinton’s best chance in the Potomac Primary, Bill Clinton packed his schedule with three stops Monday in the Old Dominion, where he tried to convince voters that his wife’s experience trumps Barack Obama’s “smoke and mirrors” candidacy.

Clinton’s first stop of the day was at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, where he barely referred to Obama by name but alluded to him often as the lesser choice for the Democratic nomination, a candidate who has style but lacks Hillary Clinton’s substance.

“You have to decide what this election is about,” Clinton told a room of 600 students, his voice hoarse from making four campaign speeches a day earlier in the District and Maryland. “You have to decide what makes the best president. You want someone with the right vision, the right plans and ability to get the job done. If that’s the test, I don’t think the question is close.”

Outside of those traits, “all the rest is smoke and mirrors,” Clinton said in reference to his wife’s more charismatic rival.

Clinton has previously tried to paint Obama as a political lightweight. When asked by TV host Charlie Rose whether Obama was “more symbol than substance,” he responded: “I get tickled watching him. He’s got great skills.”

Asked in New Hampshire about Obama’s opposition to the war in Iraq, Clinton said: “Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen.”

Although race might play a significant role in the primaries, Bill Clinton stayed away from the topic in Fredericksburg. He previously angered African-Americans by comparing Obama’s campaign in South Carolina to those of Jesse Jackson, who ran as a black candidate and was never a serious contender.

On Monday, Clinton emphasized Hillary Clinton’s experience in the Senate and her days as first lady, asserting that she helped win peace in Ireland and achieve rights for women in Senegal

How can anyone take Bill seriously when he criticizes others?

Whatever he accuses others of, he is always 100 times more guilty of the same thing.

Slick Willy’s correct. That’s all Obama is. An empty suit, albeit an articulate, well packaged one.

Smoke and mirrors. Hmmm.

Why doesn’t he just come out and refer to Obama as “the spook”.

As far as the presidency goes, foreign policy comes first, then judges, then tazes

No new tazes! :)

It is the Rhetoric that the Totalitarian leaders and mass murderers of history have used to sway nations...

It is the Good Us (Obama and his backers) vs. the bad them (Conservatives) it is WE the People, trying to unify a country divided... It is using Civil Rights era Rhetoric to show the ignorance of some as compared to the enlightenment of the many... It is the power of pointing out the Political system that is Divided by those that do not agree with our ideology, with our pursuit of what is good, Healthcare for everyone, an economy that reaches to every level to every pot, a nation that feeds every mouth, that heals all the wounds of war, A nation that stands together against the threat, yet rises up against no other nation, it is the melding of the two America’s, it is historical it is Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you, Yes a government that understands its People and shares the common vision, Free education, Free healthcare, a guarantee of your American dream and all you have to do is vote for me!

The alternative is clear there is a group of them who are bad and divisive those that will fight us those that do not agree with our ideas, those that are intolerant of people, intolerant based on race, creed, gender, age, and sexual preference, those that would limit the ability of man to use science to cure the ills of our nation, those that believe they can tell a women what she can and cannot do to her body, bad men who need to be shown the truth and the way...

We will embrace them all they need to do is put down their guns, put away their hatred, lower their voices and join hands with us and together we will ascend to the House that once was white but is now the multi-colored truth of one nation...

You see its not that hard... Yet at his rallies Women weep openly, grown men misty eyed and the Young wide eyed like cult worshippers sipping on their sanctified Kool Aid that bring them to the promised land....

If you think that Obama isn't the scariest political candidate to come along in a generation.... lol ... then you my friend have been assimilated.

His voice hoarse from doing 4 speeches the day before or whatever. This sick POS is loving all the attention he’s getting and the MSM loves to stick his ugly face on TV...

Maybe the strain of rushing around to get under as many spotlights as possible will kill him.

I dream of an America without these two POS in our face every other day. Which reminds me, I guess it’s against the law to piss on a President’s grave ??? What about spitting ???

Obama is more electable than Clinton so there is more danger of a Democrat president if he is nominated.

However, Clinton would be a more dangerous president than Obama would be.

The Clintons have done this ebfore and they will have learned from their mistakes: it will take twenty years or more to undo the damage they will do in their first month's hirings and firings alone.
