Black Lawmakers Rethink Clinton Support
Associated Press ^ | February 14, 2008 | DAVID ESPO

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a fresh sign of trouble for Hillary Rodham Clinton, one of the former first lady's congressional black supporters intends to vote for Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention, and a second, more prominent lawmaker is openly discussing a possible switch.

Rep. David Scott's defection and Rep. John Lewis' remarks highlight one of the challenges confronting Clinton in a campaign that pits a black man against a woman for a nomination that historically has been the exclusive property of white men.

"You've got to represent the wishes of your constituency," Scott said in an interview Wednesday in the Capitol. "My proper position would be to vote the wishes of my constituents." The third-term lawmaker represents a district that gave more than 80 percent of its vote to Obama in the Feb. 5 Georgia primary.

Lewis, whose Atlanta-area district voted 3-to-1 for Obama, said he is not ready to abandon his backing for the former first lady. But several associates said the nationally known civil rights figure has become increasingly torn about his early endorsement of Clinton. They spoke on condition of anonymity, citing private conversations.

If Obama wins I want to see the Black Congressional Caucus closed and never heard from again.

This is just great.....don’t vote for the best person for President, if your black, vote for the black. If you’re a woman, vote for the woman. Don’t pay any attention as to their qualifications.

Well, the political winds are shifting too. Obama has all the momentum now. Hillary appears to be like the Titanic hitting the iceberg. Politicians want to get on the bandwagon and back a winning candidate.

It is nice that after millions of years of evolution, people still act like tribal animals. Blacks for blacks. Women for women. Baptists for Baptists. Mormons for Mormons.

Blah.

Repealing the 19th Amendment could make our Nation more quiet and productive.

Gee, I wonder why they are rethinking their support for Clinton now, in 2008, rather than 1996 or 2004 or 1998.

Hmmmmmmmmm..........

What could have caused this sudden change?

I wonder.............................

This is why it's important that she ends up with the nomination. We'd have African-Americans divorced from the DemonRat party for at least a generation. I'm not saying they're coming over to us, but as long as they don't vote Rat, we stand a chance of winning if we ever get a conservative nominated again.

And it becomes permanent if the Witch actually wins the election. When I balance that against a tepid pseudo-conservative in the White House, I can see the long term payoff.

Blacks are starting to wake up. Now they just need to leave the Democratic plantation and vote for conservative blacks instead of socialists.

All future Democrat primaries will be like this. All the candidates will be rabid leftists, who essentially agree on all the issues. The election will be decided by appeals to race, gender, or sexuality as feminists, blacks, Latinos, and homosexuals fight it out.

Very prescient observation. Identity politics run amok, and finally coming home to roost.
