Ok, I did a quick search on 527's in FR forums and didn't find a more appropriate place for this, so I will start a thread to be a reference and link repository for this idea.
As of today, it appears Mr. Obama is going to be the Dem's Presidential candidate in 2008, unless the Clintstones manage to pull something out with their dirty tricks.
This presents one more of many problems for true conservatives in this election, namely, that Mr. Obama is, at best, and empty suit, or worst, a flaming commie, in the arena of ideas, and our side will not be able to effectivly communicate this without taking some hits for picking on the black guy (or the woman). We all know Mr McCain would rather be liked by his opponents than be voted for in greater numbers, so it's unlikely the things needed to be said will come from his campaign. It certainly won't come from the mainstream media.
So, to help overcome this problem, I'm suggesting, and hoping for a discussion to gain ground, starting here, to explore the possibility and organization (and ideas) involved in forming a separate 527 corporation, on the order of Club for Growth or the Swiftboat Vets, to produce and run targeted advertisements and internet videos to counter the Obama's campaign, it's 527 cronys, and the onslaught of the mainstream media. We need to communicate the things the media and our candidate will NOT say, in order to educate the masses of voters who will vote for someone based only on ideas such as change for change's sake.
I am hoping we can find the talents and organizational skills and even sponsorships for necessary production expenses here in FR and the friendly side of the blogosphere. Among the needs we will need to fill are legal, organizational, production, fund raising, marketing, and overall social networking. This would have to be comprised of volunteers who are devoted to the cause.
I am underemployed, with 18 years of IT skills, and a good mind for campaign strategy. I would be willing to devote a majority of my time to helping in any manner I can, from technical internet-related tasks such as website setup/maintenance, communication systems, and youtube.com distribution to strategy planning and script writing, and possibly even production of said video/graphic advertisements to advance our cause. I'm in southern Wisconsin and will arrange email contact for those interested in organizing with us.

I am pretty ignorant of 527 rules. However, I realize the effectiveness they can have.
I have no idea what they are either. I just saw the thread, and pinged people whose names I remember on here while bumping it. I do think it’s a fantastic idea though.

I did not intend for this to be a freerepulic 527 or in anyway associated with FR other than a thread for connecting people or discussing ideas. I meant FR as in the community of conservatives who make up FR members, all of which are free to associate with or form groups outside of Freerepublic. I am sorry if you took offense to the suggestions I made, but understand that I am not hijacking FR or it’s name or brand.

The whole point of the 527s is that individuals can give $100,000 to $1 million, give or take, without reporting to the FEC. It can then be spent any way the leaders choose, again without reporting to the FEC.
The first benefit doesn't apply to us. The second benefit does, however, we can expect our political opponents to attack us, claiming that "because Smith is a McCain supporter, and Smith is on FreeRepublic, the FR 527 is illegally coordinating its anti-Hillary ads with a candidate."
I'm just assuming that anti-Hillary ads might be produced, LOL. If they are produced, I'm certain that the Hillary machine will mount that sort of challenge.

A conservative 527, if nothing else, would make some moonbat heads explode.
And so, for no other reason, this is a good idea.
There is of course a different view.
The 527 would be established by ordinary mortals and then find the $$$ from those with the money but not able to spend the time and effort to carry out the campaign.
It does not have to be very big at the outset. If the ads are good and placed in one or two specific markest they can be picked up by the MSM and get national coverage for free.
This week Rush began calling NBC “DNC TV” That theme is there for the asking to mount a campaign

I’m not sure where I’d fall in, but I’m more than willing to help with this if it gets off the ground.
Two things:
- we may have a dog in the hunt, but that is not to elect McCain but to defeat the Democratic Party, which fronts for Big Journalism.
- A 527 is legal even under McCain-Feingold. But McCain-Feingold is unconstitutional and needs to be tested again now that a member of the 5-4 majority opinion no longer sits. Say rather, the SCOTUS needs to be tested, from my POV.
Getting that done, yesterday, would be the best thing anyone could do for American politics. But who is in a position to undertake the financial risk implied in raising such a case? Can a corporation shield individuals from such liability?
I agree that we do need this sort of thing, and have been considering a regionally focused 527 just for my congressional district (NC-11) and NC-05, and NC-10.
To further this I have started a subscription-based Message Board for locals to act as a networking tool, training area, and online pep rally.

I'm convinced that the eventual swiftboating of Obama will come from Indonesia in the form of either photographic evidence or simply Talk radio and Fox forcing the MSM to address the issue. Obama is wobbley on this and without the support of CNN and the MSM he will fall!
The problem as I see it is that much of the information on Obama that can help us simply get bounced around in the FR - LGF echo chambers. Almost nothing gets picked up by Talk Radio (Rush - Hannity - Savage) or even Fox for that matter.

What we need is people to get others on the story.
I saw a video of Obama just last night where someone asked him about the reports from Indonesia and his response was quite telling - "All those things have already been debunked" - an interesting choice of words for Barack to use... "debunked".... He simply repeated CNN's headline when asked to comment on the Indonesian reports.
It would seem that Obama and CNN have a common interest.

Snerdley at one time was James Golden. Golden was producer at WABC. He left to join some web based outfit in the 90’s and FR had some relationship with it before it went bust. I thought for some reason Golden had returned to Rush, but I’m not sure.
Try to get Rush, Levin, Hannity, et al. to contribute.

I think that it would be a good idea to work with Club for Growth. They are an established name and may be able to do some good work. I have considered joining this PAC. Maybe you should post another thread to see if there is interest to band together and join as a group.
