LaurenD: >>GDP is only one indicator.

If the GDP was all that mattered, we could have one King and one Queen own 99% of our nation’s wealth, the rest of us work as peasants for them producing even more wealth for them, point to the overall increase in economic growth, and say our economy is doing great<<

DDD: >>A recession means two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. We haven’t even had one yet. No matter what stupid people, even if they comprise half of the country, believe.<<

The contrast in your two posts shows a recurring problem. People don’t believe that a recession is according to the definition of recession, if they even know what that is.

And people vote.

It’s also about how all that wealth being produced is being shared among those who are creating it. It not trickling down fairly to those helping to create it doesn’t show up in the GDP.

You're kind of on the wrong forum here. You'd find a lot of people who agree with those sentiments here.

“The only value of this poll is to once again prove the dumbing down of America.”

As I mentioned in another post, The people who will elect the next president are watching American Idol, and alphabet network evening news, or even worse, CNN and PMSNBC (DNCTV).
It is frightening to think about how many MORONS are in America and voting.

>>I wonder how much influence the MSM has on our economy.<<

I think its like popular music and young people - a feedback cycle where the media can lead but also reflects - and if they lead very far from where the people are already going they lose influence.

I guess I’m just not feelin it...

In Wichita we can't find felons willing to work for less than $12/Hr. The business jet manufacturers are sweeping the streets for drunks to come beat rivets in their plants for $15+ great benefits. Our local economy is so good it sucks to have to compete for the few unemployable workers left. I kid you not, I hired a murderer a couple months back and just recently had to draw the line at hiring a sex-offender. Don't tell me the economy is doing poorly. Wichita has a record backlog of business jet orders, and the business jet orders are the first thing to get cut from the budget in a downturn. The aviation industry will always head into the recession first and pull out last, and right now we're flying high! Some of our investors are so full of cash they are asking us if we could possibly use any more. I don't ever remember it being this way in the last decade I've been a company owner. If this is a bad economy we'll be seriously screwed if it gets better because there is nobody to hire who is not already working for someone else. Seriously if a homeless guy showed up in Wichita with a "will work for food" sign there would be a traffic jam as people got out of their trucks and tried to hire the dude. I'm not feeling it either. Anybody out there willing to do manual labor for 8-10$/Hr. with HSA, and relocate to Wichita, KS? We have openings!

What utter socialist claptrap. Wages in the US are the highest ever, the number of jobs is the highest ever, household net worth was the highest ever about the middle of last year (down slightly on real estate and stock market declines, which affect the well off the most).

.. and thus this is not a recession.

This is the New Economy, and we have New Speak to go along with.

Anytime a sector, or industry, or region, or group, doesn't "meet their numbers", we just stop counting them. They don't exist until they start "meeting their numbers". This is the MBA way. Ain't it grand.

It's been working like a charm for decades. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton, Bush-Clinton, Clinton-Bush, ...

"which is ironic because there has not even been a single quarter of GDP decline and thus this is not a recession."

After 7 years of Bush administration economic boom, tax cuts, and savings incentives, I am well poised for this little market blip.

ARG has been among the worst of the Primary polls

A close Clinton friend owns ARG, and I believe the Clintons also owns a stake in it. Their function is purely to support Hillary.

But, good grief, the economy is strong and doing well. Yes, we have inflation right now, but that can be dealt with.

Also the high gas prices can be dealt with.

The point is we offer a job that requires no skills for a wage a single or small family can live off here with medical dental and vision coverage and we still can’t find people willing to take the job because their is such an abundance of higher paying jobs available here in our local area with companies willing to train unskilled individuals. In anything close to a recession unemployment is usually rampant in this town! I can remember times when machinists with college degrees and twenty years of experience were begging to work for peanuts just to keep their families out of bankruptcy and their were no jobs to be had around here. The local economy is the best I’ve ever seen it. They’ve got ads on TV here offering people without a commercial drivers license thousand dollar signing bonuses to come get trained to be a school bus driver for $10/Hr. + 401K Etc. Who ever heard of an unlicensed school bus driver in Podunk Kansas being offered a signing bonus? I’m telling you the job market hasn’t been this good before for workers here.

Am sick of these polls. . .how does this correspond with the latest poll headlined on 'Drudge':

POLL: Americans feel better about future...

Is this one supposed to key in our hope as promised by Obama. . .or 'what?'

Am sick of polls measuring either-cry-baby Americans or polls taken by them.

We are so damn fortunate; and with a Military yet; working it's behind off, so that we can freely complain about a raise of gas prices.

Wake-up America; we do not know the meaning of 'bad' in this country. A little self-dicipline and willing to suck up some sacrifice if that gas price hurts a little. Otherwise, get over it.

That said, believe the negativity here reflected in polls has to be rooted in the poll's own built-in misery index. Because things are NOT bad; and not that bad. ..

Cannot believe the results actually reflect opinion of any majority or class of citizens. Unless, of course, they poll mostly miserable Liberals - who are never happy about anything; save a high misery count.
